Re: OT: Hunter's Ranting--SPOILER warning
>Hey, Dan! I typed in the Spoiler thing! WTF?
Well, no.
First of all, you didn't put SPOILER tags in the header, where they are
also needed.
Second, you borrowed Carol's spacing. But Carol's post wasn't about
SPOILERS for FUTURE EPISODES-- it was a DISCUSSION of CURRENT EPISODES
("Villians" and "Tomorrow") and the spacing was there to protect those
who hadn't seen the episodes yet.
People who have seen all the episodes aired so far in the US and don't
want to be spoiled for tonight's eps would enjoy reading Carol's post,
but not yours. Therefore you need the SPOILER tags, as
"Ranting--SPOILERS for tonight's eps" or something like that, to tell
us that you are going to be discussing something different from what
Carol did.
You can't re-use Carol's subject line and spacing and then talk about
something different and more spoilery, and then say "well, she said
spoilers..." Carol used the word in a different sense (and that's why I
want us to use DISCUSSION rather than SPOILERS for that sort of thing,
to illustrate the difference more clearly), so don't blame her for
following the rules that you didn't, please.
Again, Kimber said we should just all mention which eps we're talking
about in our headers, to avoid any such confusion. Carol actually
mentioned the eps at the top of her message, but that's still good
enough. You are not supposed to put vague headings like
"Ranting--reply to Carol" on your messages, and then start talking
about things other than what Carol was talking about. That tricks the
unspoiled and makes you look like you're hiding behind Carol, whose post
was entirely proper.
All this because you simply couldn't be bothered to put "SPOILERS: 'Two
to Go'/'Grave' " at the top. Five little words.
Pardon if my tone seems testy. But it's the season finale (possibly the
finale of the show for me, if things don't improve) and my patience with
these sort of errors (when we've only been discussing the difference
between current and future episodes for the past month, with listmom
herself stating her preferences) is limited.
Sincerely (and with apologies if I've been overly harsh),
Dan
