Re: ::BuffyWantsWillow::Cas and optimism--Finale DISCUSSION
Hey, another thing I'm bitter about is
that
my
sucky
email
program
doesn't
let
me
copy
spoiler space (or anything else)

Shit, wasn't that what **this** season was for? Emphasize the
disconnect, bring them to blows, so you can reconnect them? Except that
there was no reconnect. A whole year of depression-Buffy, Spuffy sex,
the pointlessly random murder of Tara, all to set up "Buffy versus
Willow; I have to fight my best friend"--and then Buffy turns out to
have absolutely nothing to do with the resolution at all.
Heck, she really didn't need to be in the ep. Running Losers, yes;
ProtectionSpellAnya, yes; SuperGiles, yes; CrayonSpeechXander, yes;
Dawn-LustingBuffy, no. Buffy was utterly irrelevant to the ep (and thus
to Willow). :(
They killed the only good thing about "Doublemeat Palace"--the lesbian
symbolism of the Killer Penis and the idea that Willow would save Buffy
from her Spike-paralysis (and the depression that caused it). We got
that in "Normal Again", grooved on it--and then Marti took it away.
Yep, Buffy didn't want to live because her friends made it worthwhile.
She wants to live to show Shiny McWhiny the world. (Notice how Dawnie's
SuperHair stays shiny, even after rolling around in a grave fighting
monsters?)
So, Willow had nothing to do with Buffy's salvation. And Buffy had
nothing to do with Willow's. Are they even on the same show?
I gave the show until the end of the year. They got me back, then lost
me again. Time's up. For me, canon ends at "Normal Again".
All I ever really ask of this show is that B/W/X be good people and
better friends (suffering through crises to stay that way, but always so
in their hearts). Zero for two. Bye.
Dan
Who might watch the premiere just to see the new credit sequence--I
want all the black magic stuff (including the "Tough Love" clips) out of
Willow's group, since that's not who she is any more (we hope) and I
want the rape scene in Spike's, since that's who he should be, always,
to Buffy.
(Oh, and good storytelling is important, too, but emotional involvement
with the characters is moreso. I'll take "Inca Mummy Girl" over
anything from Season 6 [except "Normal Again" and possibly "Hell's
Bells"] anyday.)
