Re: SW: Episode 2 vs. Buffy

Rather detailed SPOILERS for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the
Clones

I really liked Ep II. But then, I'm an irrational fanboy, so I guess
my opinion can't be trusted. However, looking at it objectively:

The dialogue and direction were truly horrible - they showed no
purpose other than to explain elements of the story, as exposition. I
am not of the opinion (as many are) that this was the fault of the
actors involved - rather, I blame Lucas, who has surrounded himself
with sycophants and yes-men and thus no longer has anyone to tell him
he is doing a shitty job of directing and his dialogue sucks beyond
belief.

The action, however, was incredible; the duels, the chases, the
special effects, Count Dooku (who may as well be called Lord Saruman,
not Lord Tyrannus) - and of course Yoda (need I even explain?).

Another plus was the fact that Jar-Jar had only about 3 or 4 minutes
of screen time - and that I can blame him for the downfall of the
galaxy. Also, there was little to no mention of midichlorians, a
concept I found downright offensive in Ep I.

And I liked the plot itself; it involved me in spite of the boring
dialogue, and never seemed to bog down too long in any one subject.

Overall, I found the good points to far outweigh the bad, and enjoyed
the movie immensely. But, as I said, I'm a fanboy, I'd probably have
enjoyed the Musketeer if Lucas had made it and called it Star Wars, so
you shouldn't necessarily trust my opinion.

As to the comparison with Buffy: I was not really in "Buffy" mode
when I watched it last Thursday, as I had just stood in line for 3.5
hours listening to DSOTM and talking with other Fans (I was in a group
of five at the very front of the line, so everyone nearby was a
definite fan, and my group got the best seats in the theatre). So, I
didn't think of Willow during that particular scene. Oh well.
