Oh, I think it was pretty clear in "Villains". Or "Seeing Red", where,
the day after he's learned Spike boinked the two girls in his life,
Xander's upset about Buffy, not Anya. But people are reading a lot into
her alleged look of pride on hearing Xander saved the day. (Personally,
I thought it was confusion, and possibly jealousy on hearing that he had
awakened Willow's heart.)
And thanks for the "Crayon Christ Boy" mention. I cut a whole section
from one of my earlier posts, since it was OT, but let me say that this
Jewish viewer was not really thrilled to see The Carpenter heal "Darth
Rosenberg" with Love. A little close to a Jews for Jesus advert, that
was.
Besides, doesn't Fury watch the show? Xander isn't Jesus. Buffy is
Jesus. (Died to save the world and was resurrected, her blood is the
cure for the Devil's poison, and so on. Better writers than I have done
essays on this.)
