Okay, gang, Marti sent one letter and suddenly we're all analyzing it for
hidden messages like it was a grainy movie of the Kennedy motorcade, looking
for evidence of the second shooter! Me, I'm just gonna check the season
premiere when it happens, and take things as they come.

I have one thing to say about the handling of Willow's addiction. I had this
chat with Shyfox last night, and I came to a major conclusion. Willow's
problem stemmed from a lack of guidance in her formative years. Just as she
was first learning magic from Jenny in Season 2, Jenny died at Angelus's
hands. And Giles, being the Watcher, was more involved with Buffy's training
than Willow's magic education. Most of her magic was self-taught, and she
never taught herself the discipline she needed to use it wisely. She was
doing well at first, when her powers, while impressive, were limited. And
when she hooked up with Tara, Tara seemed to ground her.

Unfortunately, as the Season 5 and 6 story arcs proved, Willow became to re
liant on Tara. Without her around, she became a loose cannon. When Tara
lost her sanity to Glory, Willow hit the vengeance trail(personally I thought
she was more scary last season when she angrily told Glory, "I owe you pain!"
than when she was doing her Bjork impression at the end of this season).
When Tara left her this season, she sought refuge and solace in her magic,
ultimately taking things too far. When she chose to quit doing magic, she
did it for Tara. When Tara died, she was completely lost.

Tara was a good person, a sweet person, and no hardship to look at either.
She will be missed. But Willow's mistake was to live solely for Tara. She
needs to look back at her life and make whatever changes she is going to
make, not for Tara's sake(or for Xander's sake, or even Buffy's sake) but for
her own sake. She needs to reassert her own self worth before she allows
another person to share her life. If she can do that, then she can call
herself cured. Here's hoping that the writers get the message next season.
