pt.5
"I'm going out. Have fun at Janice's."
Willow pulled her arm through the sleeve of Buffy's leather coat.
[Another way of showing that I have no self-control. Wearing her
jacket, how weird is that?]
"Where are you going?"
Dawn appeared at the top of the stairs carrying her over night bag.
Willow closed the front door turning back to answer Dawn.
"I was gonna go get some ice cream for my favorite girl."
Willow smiled as brightly as she could at the moment, but Dawn wasn't
fooled.
"Willow if your going to lie to me to me at least make it believable."
"That was believable! Totally plausible!" Dawn made her way down the
stair case, giving Willow a look that said `do you expect me to
believe that?'
"Okay it would have if you weren't leaving to go to Janice's."
Willow moved closer to the door, silently wondering if she could get
out of the house before Dawn was at her side.
[Definitely don't want to explain why I am going out.]
Dawn reached the bottom of the staircase, now standing with her hands
on her hips.
"And the fact that we have ice cream." Willow opened her mouth to
protest, but Dawn continued speaking. "Is this about your letter to
Buffy? Because I hope you know that she doesn't want you to leave or
move out."
"Dawnie this isn't about my letter. Wait, you know about my
letter?! Well just forget what it said, that was the wrong one. It
wasn't meant for Buffy, it was for?" Willow sighed, her fingers
absently playing with the doorknob.
"Willow you don't have to try and hide the truth from me. I'm a big
girl. I thought you understood that." Dawn headed towards Willow,
only wanting to hug her. "Willow, we need you hear. BOTH of us."
She ended her sentence by hugging Willow hard. "You can't leave!"
"Oh Dawnie! That really wasn't the right letter. I couldn't ever
leave you. Who else would watch weird exploratory surgery shows with
me?" Willow tightened her arms around Dawn. "I'm just worried that
Buffy is in trouble or something like to that effect."
"Buffy's lucky to have you here to help her." The redhead's
momentary joy was cast aside, and released Dawn from her arms.
"Yeah. A friend who brings you back from eternal peace. Can't find
to many of them around anymore."
"She doesn't blame you Willow. She loves you. Who else would care
that she isn't back yet?" Dawn reached down and picked her bag up
from off the floor.
"Maybe. I just want to be sure that nothing has happened, so I'm
going to go have a quick looksy around a couple of places."
Willow opened the door letting Dawn lead the way out.
"Do you have any supplies?" Willow immediately turned back around.
"Thanks Dawnie! Have fun."
[Can't believe I was going to leave without any protection. My mind
is so far out.]
*************************************
Tara crossed the street wondering where the Scoobys were.
[Umm. Let's see. It's dark out so they are probably out patrolling.
Come on Tare no need to act stupid because you want to talk with
Willow.]
Tara wrapped her arms around her shoulders, the cold air biting at
her warm body.
[I need to get this off my chest. I have a stake, I'll be fine
looking for them.]
The Tara's eyes swept down the street, not spotting anyone around
her, or anything for that matter, around her. The blonde opened up
her sense to keep alert, wondering if her magical abilities would be
of any use at all.
[It's not like my knowing that a vampire is close by is going to help
me stake them.]
The blonde sped up, all of a sudden afraid of the shadows around
her. A crash behind her sent Tara jumping five feet into the air.
[A cat! It was only a small little kitty. I'm going to give myself
a heart attack before I get to the gang.]
"Buffy!"
[Willow!]
********************************************
Willow walked the streets of Sunnydale, her mind thinking of all the
possible places Buffy might be.
[There are too many cemeteries that Buffy might be in! Okay let's
just go about this backwards. Start with the cemeteries near the DMP
and work my way towards the house.]
The redhead jogged to first one, there finding the sight that scared
her to the marrow of her bones.
"Buffy!"
Somehow Willow managed to run to her friend that as being bitten by a
vamp.
[Let me be in time! Let me be in time!]
Willow shoved her stake through the back of the vampire that was
biting Buffy.
[What do I do now?!]
The two remaining vampires tossed Buffy aside, lunging at Willow,
the stake dropping from her hand.
"Running now!"
[Think! What do I have-Holy water! Yay!]
Willow rounded the corner of the closest crypt, retrieving the bottle
from her back pocket.
[Calm down in about three seconds the vamps are going to come, and
your going to throw the water on them.]
"Eep!"
Willow threw the bottle at the vampires, which was completely
ineffective.
[Stupid! Uncap bottle, THEN throw!]
Willow took off again, a small red blur that headed back to Buffy.
[Get her and go. Ice cream sundaes for all when you get back home
safe.]
The redhead stumbled on a grave marker, landing at Buffy's feet.
"Buffy, up and at'em! Can you walk?"
The blonde's lips moved but no sound came out.
"Taking that as a `Yes' and helping you up now."
Willow hurriedly placed her arm under Buffy's bracing her as Willow
pushed them to their feet.
[Don't have time!] She looked back to find the vamps about a hundred
yards away.
"Buffy can you run?"
"Y-yes."
"Then let's flee."
Willow guided them as fast as humanly possible through the crypts,
happy that she knew her way around from years of Scooby patrols. A
grunt from behind her washed away the smile on her face. Buffy and
Willow hit the cold earth hard, nearly rendering Willow unconscious.
"No where to run now."
Willow looked up, the vampires stood over Buffy and her.
[We're going to die.]
Willow looked at Buffy, finding the blonde's face covered in remorse.
[We're going to die, and I can't save-]
"Any last words girlies?"
"I have one. INFERNO!"
******************************************
Tara closed the remaining distance between Buffy, Willow and
herself. Praying that she wouldn't be to late.
