Good point; that was the original reason for the posts on the topic, and
I too had seen the insert. I just forgot whether it said '02 or '03.

And, oddly, it doesn't seem that impossible to me that the insert could
say "Winter 2003" and the discs could still come out in November or
December. As you yourself mention, the teaser for S2 said "June", not
"Summer", so the plans for 3 are doubtless a little vague. (Perhaps
they want to see how the S2 sales hold up and are concerned about
over-saturating the market?)

But I'd still be surprised if they decided to skip Christmas altogether.
And all I know for sure is that they are contractually prohibited from
releasing set before the syndicated episode airings of "Graduation Day,
Part 2" on October 20th. After that, who knows?
