gidday! mudrat
you know the pollies here talk through their arses ;), I cannot see
how they ban or make mandatory the region coding for each country, it
has nothing to do with copywrite, its something imposed by the movie
companies to control sales in each country, I just bought Star Trek
TNG season2 dvds from Amazon.uk, including airmail it will cost me
AUS$154, thats $50 cheaper than I can buy it here, Paramount will
still make money on this regardless from where I buy it from.
the cheap chinese dvd players have made the "Brand" companies sit up
and take notice, Sony and Panasonic sell machines that can be made
region free with a cd or unlock code from the remote, and chip modding
is available for most dvd players on the market, and there nothing
illegal about it so long as it doesn't remove macrovision.
maybe we should take note from NZ, region coding is illegal there, a
dvd player cannot be sold there unless its region free
cheers
