Buffy stared at the flowers - red roses - that lay upon her pillow.

She frowned. Who would leave her flowers? It wasn't Spike's style. 
She peered at the card.

"If roses were brown would we still love them? 
Without their beauty, are they still beautiful? 
Without the mask of favoured scent, 
would they still be attractive to our uneducated eyes? 
If I were beautiful, do you think you could love me? 
Even as I am, do you think you could love me? 
Or are you only attracted to the prettiest flowers 
with the sweetest of scent and the sharpest of thorns? 
For I am no rose; I have neither beauty nor thorns,
