Re: [Re: [Re: FIC: Deeper-Post Season Six Fic(1/1)]]
Greetings,
I hate writing about this publicly but nine times out of ten any email I send
to you bounces. Can I suggest you invest in an actual computer?
>>First of all, apologies for going from memory and mixing up Ocean with
Sea.
Of forget it, apologising for every slight mistake would waste so much timeit
isn't even funny.
>>1. Idea
2. Opportunity
3. Attempt
4. Success
Okay, clearly spoken and clearly defined. The law on the other hand kicks in
at level 3. I myself kick in at level 3.
>>Most of us have our moral tethers in place,
Most.
>>Perhaps when Giles went to grab the crossbow in "Amends",
You're leaving out the additional data he had based on what Buffy had told
him, sorta. If he hadn't had that info, he would have perforated Angel.
>>Perhaps when we don't actually attempt our allegedly-contemplated evil
deeds,
There are too many of 'Perhaps' and far too much bringing in of ourselves into
this conversation. This isn't about us, it's about The Characters. True
chracters speak to induviduals in different ways but I am clever enough(I
think) not to stick with just what I think the characters do, but consult with
others well before word one of a story is put to text.
>>Apparently you visualized Buffy doing a shoheit impression
rather than knocking Faith out and dropping her at Angel's feet, but I
always saw it the other way around.
Yep, S'why she brought the knife and not a two by four.
>>Yes, the standard for Buffyverse injury survival is medically dubious.
Ain't that the truth.
>>Buffy honestly feels that killing humans is
wrong, and that her argument is so compelling it wins Dawn and Xander to
her side,
Yeah, well personally that scene was so dreadfully done I can barely stand to
give it a second thought. We're talking about Vengeance here VS Justice. A
concept that has hounded man since the first day. And now we're supposed to
believe that a hearfealt speech(And a REALLY bad one at that) is supposed to
convince a harsh, horomanly charged not quite emotionally stable teen and
larger young man who never was altogether there?
Yes.
In Hollywood only.
I'm not saying I disagree with what you have to say, I am saying using THAT
scene to back up your position though is an error.
All this is facinating stuff and it's well thought out and well written but
there is still one eensy teensy fact that I feel you're overlooking. I'll
repeat myself.
The Issue For ME in this story was NOT Willow should not be held accountable
for her actions and in fact should be given a pat on the head, a hot mug of
cocoa, told sternly, 'Don't kill again' and then forgotten about.
The Issue is THAT It is EASIER for Willow to live with what she has done than
people would expect and THAT is what's bugging Buffy. The hard part for Willow
is living without Tara.
>>While I understand that we're probably in "agree to disagree" territory
We passed that. These days we're in 'Huh?'
>>I can't say that I'm in favor of the concept that Willow did
nothing wrong and the only price she should have to pay is struggling
with her conscience.
See above.
The idea is this, Willow has lost Tara. THAT is the tragedy. Nothing more,
nothing less. Willow can live with what she's done, there is nothing in the
story that says what should or should not happen BECAUSE of what she's done,
it just says 'She can live with it'. Not easily, maybe, or maybe she can, who
knows? I don't.
Tara is gone, that's the point.
>>(Which, again, doesn't make the fic any less
well-written philosophical differences and literary criticism being
two very different things.)
Oh indeed, indeed. And I take no offense.
I rather like having tweaked you to the point where you've
written...what...twelve pages?
I remain, as always,
Mad-Hamlet
W.B. Yeats: What rough beast, its hour come at last, slouches toward Bethlehem
to be born?
Mad-Hamlet: Me.
