Previously:
Sara looked around the room at the stares off the slayer's amazed
friends and finally settled on Giles, " well, old man, I guess it
is
time for you to let the cat out of the bag".
"Buffy, I would like you to meet Sara, the ex vampire
slayer", Giles
smiled.
" What", everybody screamed at once.
"Giles, how can this be, I thought I was the oldest living
slayer",
Buffy screamed looking at Giles.
"You are, I died 3 days before my 18th Birthday", Sara
answered.
" But you are alive enough to kick my ass", Buffy said
confused.
" Maybe we had all better go back and have a seat this is a long
story and Buffy needs to have that forehead cleaned up. Gail can you
go get the first aid kit from the bathroom", with that Sara
headed
back to the rec room.
The gang just stood there too confused and stunned to say a word.
"Giles, I don't understand this, why didn't you tell
us", Buffy
asked.
" It wasn't my place to say anything, Sara went through hell
and she
deserved to decide who she told or didn't tell." Giles sighed
and
started to clean his glasses.
Jen walked over and sat down beside Buffy, " Buffy, my mom has
never
told anyone about her past to anyone that I know of before, I have
never even heard the whole story. Mom must trust you or she
wouldn't
be willing to tell you. She doesn't trust a lot of people. I know
she
can be kind of distant and somewhat cold but she lost a lot then. I
found one of her journals when we were moving one time and I read it,
it talked about some of the things that happened here and I don't
want to be the one to tell you but I know that she has never been the
same since. I don't expect what I am telling you to change your
mind
about her but I would like you to listen to what she has to say. She
is a pretty smart lady and I am not just saying that because she is
my mom but because she is."
Buffy sat and stared at this young girl and wondered how she seemed
so wise for her age, but I guess having a ex-slayer as a mother might
have something to do with it, " ok I promise to keep an open mind
to
what she has to say".
Buffy got up and walked to the door with Dawn, Xander and Anya
following.
Willow and Giles walked up to Jen. " Well do you think that I
helped
any", Jen asked Giles.
"Jennifer, I am very proud of you, I think you helped a great
deal,
thank you", Giles wrapped his arms around the small girl and
wondered
when his surrogate niece had grown up, "now about this trip to
the
mall".
" Oh no you don't, we are going to the mall and you are
going to
carry all the bags" Jen smiled, " and I got my learners
permit last
week, so I 'm driving".
" Dear lord", Giles mumbled and walked off in a daze.
" Jen I think you might have scared him and that is not an easy
thing
to do", Willow laughed, " god it feels good to laugh.
You're the
first person since Tara died to make me laugh".
" Stick around honey, I'll have you rolling on the floor
hold your
sides", Jen chuckled.
Jen grabbed Willow hand and they walked toward the rec room to their
waiting family and friends.
Willow looked around the room when her and Jen made it back to the
rec room. Gail was taking care of Buffy's head, Dawn was looking
through the video's by the TV, Xander and Anya were sitting on
the
couch talking, ` maybe there was hope for them after all',
Willow
thought. Giles was sitting in a chair with a dazed look on his face,
which made Willow laugh out loud.
Everyone stopped what they were doing too stare at her; no one had
heard her laugh in a long time. Willow realizing she had laughed out
loud starting blushing.
" Told ya", Jen whispered and smirked. Willow and Jen looked
at Giles
again and lost it. They started giggling and before either of them
knew it they had to hold each other up from falling to the floor in a
fit of hysterics.
Sara and the gang stood there and watched as the two tried to compose
themselves, and let them in on the joke. Sara was the first to
speak, " Umm, ladies would you like to share with the rest of the
class what is so funny, I don't want to have to separate you
two".
" Sorry Mom, I just told Giles about my learners permit and that
I
was going to drive us to the Mall. I think he is a little
scared".
Another wave of giggles followed her confession.
"Giles, you have faced vampires, demons, and an assortment of
other
deadly things, but a teenage driver scares you", Buffy asked
laughing. That was it, the whole room was laughing at their fearless
leader.
" Yes, yes have a laugh at the old man expense", Giles said
and then
did a very un-Giles thing and giggled too.
This just sent the room into another fit of laughter. Sara watched
Willow leaning against her daughter laughing. ` She is so
beautiful
when she laughed, maybe when things were over she would have to look
into all of the new feeling she was having', Sara thought,
`well if
things get better, but from the look of the red head it was going to
be fine, thanks to my daughter'. Sara made a mental note to tell
Jen
how proud she was of her and to tell her she loved her
" Ok guys I think we have lots to talk about and I guess this all
me,
so anybody want to get some drinks, I ordered some pizza that should
be here in a little bit. I thought everybody might be hungry",
Sara
said.
" A women after my own heart", Xander said. Sara noticed the
look
that the Anya gave her and almost started to laugh again. ` No
can't
start that again', she thought.
Sara waited until everyone had found a seat before she started, "
Before I start my story I want to apologize to you Buffy. I stepped
over a line with you. I also want to tell you how much I respect you
for being able to stay alive for as long as you have and for not
giving up like I did".
" Sara you don't have to apologize to me, I was being a
bitch, but
when it comes to these guys, well I would protect them with my
life",
Buffy replied.
" And has", Dawn added.
" Yeah I know about Glory, it must have been tough", Sara
said, " I
was 14 when I was called, I was from a very rich family and was
totally blind to everything. Sam was my Watcher and he was a very
patient man, thankfully, because I was a handful. My first night out
I had to face a group of 10 vamps, they were trying some kind of
ritual, we never did figure what for. We almost died that night and I
think if it would have been anyone other than Sam I would have. I met
Josie when I was 15, she was a year older than I was, her mom had
just died and she had moved here to live with her grandmother. I
think I fell in love with her the first time I saw her. She looked
like you, Willow, you could be her sister", Sara stopped and saw
tears in Jen's eyes and almost started to cry herself. Willow
took
Jen's hand and tried to comfort the young girl.
`Maybe I should have her go to her room' Sara thought
`no, she has a
right to hear this too', "I found her one night in the park
crying. I
sat down and we talked for a while about school and about each other.
She never did tell me in the 4 years we were together what she had
been crying about. We talked for hours sitting there on that bench in
the park. Finally I asked her to let me walk her home. Well as luck
would have it we ran into a 3 vamps, not a block from her house. I
dusted the first one with no problem but the second one was a little
more experienced and was giving me a fight. All of the sudden there
was a big burst of light and both vamps were dust in the wind. Josie
was a witch; at least she was learning to be. Her mother was a witch
as was her grandma and so on. I told her about me being the
`chosen
one' and explained all about the hellmouth. She knew a lot
already,
so I just filled in the blanks. I was so happy to not be alone
anymore. Buffy you know how hard it is to make friends being the
slayer. Josie held my hand all the way back to her house. When we got
to her house she kissed me. I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
The next day we met in the library and I told Sam. He was not
thrilled, no other slayer had outside help before but I convinced him
that it would be a good thing. Josie and I learned together, Sam
taught me how to be a slayer and Josie grandmother was teaching her
how to be a witch. We were a good team, the four of us. When we were
in our senior year of high school when things went nuts. I was 17 and
Josie was 18, we were at my house one-night studying, I had a big
test and she was flipping through one of her grandma's books. She
started reading this spell out loud, it was in Latin and it about
drove me nuts. We made love for the first time that night; it was the
most beautiful thing I have experienced in my life. Two months later
we were sitting in the park having a picnic when Josie looked at me
and told me she was pregnant. At first I was devastated, I thought
she had slept with some guy. She just shook her head and told me that
it had been the spell she had read that night. She hadn't known
what
it was than, that it had sounded beautiful. It wasn't until she
had
missed one than two periods that she had asked her grandma about it.
I was in shock at first than I realized that I was going to be a
mother and I cried. Not tears of sadness but joy. Our love had made
it possible and I knew that nothing our love made could be bad. I was
scared though, I was the slayer and I was afraid that someone would
use Josie and the baby to get to me. We told Sam the next day. He
almost went through the roof but he realized that it was already done
and there was nothing he could do about it. The three of went and I
finally told my parents about everything, the slaying, Josie being a
witch, and the baby. I was surprised when they told me they already
knew about the slaying. Dad had grown up here and known a slayer when
he was in high school. He told me she had saved his life. He was a
pioneer in the computer business. He had designed software for some
of the government's first computers. He also designed the network
for
the watchers council. That's when he found out about me. He knew
that
there was nothing he could do about it and figured I would tell him
when I was ready. The six of us sat down and devised a plan, I could
no longer be the Slayer and we knew the only way was for me to
die".
The doorbell rang and Gail went to get the pizza and Sara decided
that it was time for a break.
