Well Irc is short for Inernet Relay Chat?? not sure, but it's 
another way to chat with people, and you can go into a room and talk 
to lots of people at once, a bit like Yahoo Chat rooms.

Anyhow, you can download one of many scripts from 
http://www.mirc.com , mirc is the basic script and will get you 
chatting shortly.

Once you have it installed it's as simple as putting in a username 
and connecting to a Dalnet server, then once you have connected 
type /join #buffy-willow
