Re: OT: trauma, silence and Maya Angelou

my memory is for shit...
maya angelou came to the university i went to back in 97 or 98 and WOW... she read poetry, talked about her childhood (see... you'd think i could remember stuff like that... but no, i was thinking, okay either its her who went through that or i'm only thinking its her and i'm a dufus) if you ever get a chance to go to one of her lectures or readings DO IT... it is SO worth it.... the same can be said for Alice Walker, btw, who i saw that same year.... now if i had only been able to see Allen Ginsberg before he died i would be set...

not that any of what i just said mattered.... but *shrug*

Yes, RW is right, Maya Angelou remained silent for several years after
her childhood rape. The events form part of the subject of her
best-selling book "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings".

At the bottom of this page is a link to an article on Ms. Angelou
discussing this and other topics during a university address earlier
this year.

Willow: Oh Buffy, you really need to have every square inch of your ass kicked.
Buffy: Then show me what you got, and I'll show you what a Slayer really is.

Memento Mori. Remember that you must die.
