Re: Re: Marti, Cas, and_B/W--micro-SPOILER

Yeah, Joss and company really put their foot in it with "Wiccan".
Originally, they started to use it because they got flak for promoting
negative stereotypes by using the word "witch", and then they used
"Wiccan" in a blanket sense and ended up making Willow's dealings in
Satanic power a smear on an old and peaceful religion. Blech.

Can't agree with you on killing Warren, though. Yes, they made sure to
have metaphorically twirl his mustache so everyone could go "Ooooh!
He's EEEEVIL!" and we could have the "kewl" skinning and yet not totally
alienate Willow from the fans, but that's a crock, IMO.

Warren's murder of Tara was no more evil than Jonathan and Andrew's part
in the murder of Katrina, and notably less evil than Faith's murder of
Lester Worth. For a show based on Buffy killing sentient creatures on a
weekly basis to have any moral center (which is needed if the show is to
be anything but random acts of kung fu), there have to be some basic
rules. Humans should not be killed (except in self-defense) because
their soul gives them the chance to reform. Our heroes are people who
have certain lines they won't cross, therefore we have a reason to root
for Buffy to save them (other than "Aly has cute abs"). Vampires and
demons are soulless evil creatures who can never be redeemed, therefore
it's okay for Buffy to kill them.

Tamper with this structure and the Buffyverse makes about as much sense
as Buffy dusting some vampires and leaving others to watch her sister.
Willow killed not only the current Warren, but the possibility of a
redeemed, penitient Warren, for no reason other than her own personal
petty emotional pleasure. That's not heroic, that's evil. Just as evil
as if she had snuck into that hospital room and smothered Faith while
she was in that coma. The fact that most people (including me) prefer
Eliza Dushku's curvaceous chest to Adam Busch's hairy one does not
excuse this, IMO.
