I have a lot of personal experience with this sort of thing. My given name
is Cami. It is not now, never has been, and never will be, short for
Camille. There is no Camille on my birth certificate. There is no Camille
on my driver's license, or an other sort of legal document. No member of my
family has ever called me Camille. The name was never intended to be
Camille. Yet most people assume that Cami is short for Camille. So I tell
them to just call me Tater.
