Pairing: Willow/ Buffy
Spoilers: I guess all of the shows this is A/U but some of it might 
come up.
Summery: A/U A different first season, different Willow.
Author notes: I am still working on Learning to live. Let me know if

Buffy grabbed her lunch from her locker and headed outside to eat. 
She spotted Xander sitting on a bench by himself.
"Hey mind if I join you", she asked him.
"Sure" the shy young man smiled and blushed. 
"So have you seen Willow since class this morning", Buffy couldn't 
seemed to get the red head out of her mind. 
"No she probably took off. She hates school, too many people to ask 
questions."
"She has some pretty big issue, huh".
"Yeah, Buffy I am not sure if I should be talking about her with you. 
She keeps things to herself mostly."
"So tell me about you then", she told him. 
"Not much to tell. I love books and computers; I am pretty much a big 
nerd. You could be hurting your social standing just by sitting with 
me."
"I have never really cared about things like that anyway. Do your 
parents abuse you too?", she couldn't help but ask him. He seemed so 
peaceful to have to endure something like that.
"Sometimes, mostly dad just goes after mom but sometimes? 
Buffy saw the tears trying to form in his eyes, "It's ok you don't 
have to go on, I think I understand. I meant what I said if there is 
anything, you need a place to crash when things get bad or anything, 
just ask". 
"Thanks, I might have to take you up on that sometime." The two 
finished the rest of their lunch in quiet. Xander was trying to 
figure Buffy out, "Why do you care".
"Huh, care about what".
"Me, you just met me and I feel like you really care", he said.
"Honestly I am not sure. I really can't figure it out but I know I 
do. I think I might have found a friend and as a friend I have to 
care".
"Thanks, it is nice to have someone new, someone who doesn't have to 
go through what we do".
"Do you think Willow will like me", Buffy asked, not really sure why 
she cared. Willow seemed like trouble `but then again I am not a 
saint either'. 
"Willow has a hard time trusting anyone, give her time she might."  
Cordy walked up, "Xander, how are you doing." Buffy couldn't help but 
hear \the softness of her voice as she spoke to him. 
"I'm good and you"?
"Well I was good until they found the dead guy in the gym locked 
room".
"Huh, how did he die? Did he have any marks on his neck."
"Eww, didn't get close enough to look. I make it a habit not to look 
at dead people".
"Look I got to go, Xander I will see you after school", Buffy said 
and took off. Xander and Cordy just looked at each other and shrugged.


Buffy found the girl's locker room and found it locked. The door 
was no match for her slayer strength and with one hard pull it flew 
open. Thankfully the coroner hadn't gotten around to picking up the 
body. Buffy zipped open the bag and checked his neck, "Damn, so much 
for a new life". 

Buffy crashed into the library, "Watcher guy where are you".
"No need to yell I am right here". Buffy looked up and saw him 
standing in loft, "So you have vamps here to".
"Why do you think you were brought here"?
"Because my mom got a new job after I got kicked out of school", 
Buffy told him.
"Well yes and no, she did get a new job but that was arranged by the 
council. Your being here is because of them."
"I can't escape this can I"?
"Afraid not, you are the `chosen one'."
"Great when do we start but I am protesting this. I also have one 
condition; I get to tell my mom. I don't like to keep secrets."
"I am not so sure that would be wise to tell her", the watcher told 
her.
"Fine I am out of here then, no mom, no slayer".
"Ok we will tell her this weekend. This is against my better 
judgment."
"Well if that is settled I need books".
