Woohoo! Another escapee from under Lurkers' Rock!
Patty, thank you very much for dropping by to give some feedback.
Please do so more often.
(I've liberated you from moderated status, so you may post freely--and
need I mention how totally stoked I am that someone actually paid
attention to my previous remarks on that subject? Between you and Nyka,
my head will swell up even larger than it is.)
I wholeheartedly agree with your urge to all the writers to keep
writing--a glitch in the feedback is not an excuse to quit, it's an
indication that the list isn't doing **its** job.
Remember, great though feedback is, that's not what you're writing for.
You're telling the stories because you want to do so, and posting them
here because you want to share them with others. If your feedback gets
a little slack, that does NOT mean no one is reading or enjoying the
fic--the most pieces of FB I've ever gotten on a fic was 10, out of
1000+ listmembers. So that's just a 1% return, not too different from
anyone else's **worst** response.
Don't be discouraged, especially if you post your fic on the weekend
(remember, many people only have online access at work or at school) and
do give it a little time before you think it's stiffed. IMO, Matthias
and greywolf were understandably upset that they got nothing but silence
(extenauting circumstances aside), but Nyka, I think getting a five-part
fb on a Sunday night is a pretty good start, myself. Hopefully the
responses you've all gotten since will convince you to keep on posting,
and not deprive us of the B/W goodness, no matter how scanty the fb.
THAT SAID......
[resolve face]
Feedback, people! It is NOT that hard. You don't have to be wise or
deeply analytical or even original--just a simple note saying you liked
the fic and want to see more is perfectly fine. (Although I always like
to cite at least one thing about it liked, to give the author something
specific to hang the compliments on.)
Remember, the author took the time to write hundreds or thousands of
words for your enjoyment--the least you can do is take a minute and
write two sentences in reply. (Even if it's nothing more than "More!
Please?" <g>)
Let's make a strong effort to do more feedback and keep in closer
contact with the authors. It's the best way I know of making sure we
get outr RDF (Recommended Daily Fics).
Feedback, Feedback, Feedback!
Fic, Fic, Fic!
(trite, trite, trite...)
Dan
list berater...fic believer
(and, for the heck of it, once more thanks to Patty)
