"Buffy are you sure that there isn't anything you would like
to tell me before Mr. Giles gets here", Joyce Summers asked her
daughter and Xander. After the fight with Willow the night before
Joyce had offered the guest room to the boy.
"Mom I promise that I am not in trouble again but I am going to leave
the explaining to Giles. It's his job kinda." Before Joyce could say
anymore the doorbell rang and Buffy opened it to find not only Giles
but also Jenny and Shelly.
"Miss Calendar, I am surprised to see you and Shelly here. I thought
Giles would be by himself".
"Please Buffy call me Jenny outside of school. When you call me Miss
Calendar, I look for my mother. Rupert thought having a teacher and a
doctor would help. I think he just didn't want your mom to think he
was some pervert trying to seduce her daughter".
Buffy giggled, "You know he might be right. Please come in and have a
seat. Mom is getting some coffee and tea". Right on cue Miss
Summers came from the kitchen carrying a tray with coffee, tea and
cookies, "Hello". Giles stood and took the tray from her, "Hello, I
am Rupert Giles. It's a pleasure to meet you".
"Hi, I am Jenny Calendar, Buffy computer teacher and this is my
friend, Dr. Shelly Warner". Buffy noticed that Jenny didn't introduce
Shelly as her girlfriend, "Miss Calendar, it is ok to tell my mother
that Shelly is your girlfriend. I don't think that she is
homophobic". Buffy looked at her mother and she nodded.
"Well you have to be careful sometimes. Some parents don't like the
fact that one of their kids teacher is gay", Shelly said shaking
Joyce's hand.
"So now that we have been introduced, is Buffy in some kind of
trouble", Joyce asked looking at the three adults sitting on the
couch. Buffy and Xander had found a spot on the floor. Buffy had
decided that if she and him were going to be friends, he had the
right to hear all of it too.
"Most certainly not. I know that what I am about to tell you may be
hard for you to understand but I can assure you that Buffy is a hero
not a troublemaker. Miss Summers do believe in vampires and demons",
not waiting for an answer he continued, "They do exist and your
daughter is a slayer, the `chosen one'." Giles waited for this to
sink in and continued his story explaining about slayers and their
duties, the council, that he was her watcher. After an hour of
talking he finally stopped and waited for the questions. Joyce looked
at them and tried to open her mouth but nothing came out. Xander got
up the floor and sat down in front of her and took her hand in
his, "Miss Summers, I know that you have heard a lot here today that
my sound like some really bad teen horror movie. I can see it
now `Buffy, The vampire slayer', but what they say is true. This
place is hell on earth, why do you think that no one cares, besides
the people in this room, that Willow shows up at least two or three
times a week with bruises or a busted lip. Most of the adults of this
town don't care about us. So many people disappear that they just
don't like to get involved."
"Ok say I believe you and I am not sure if I do yet, is this
dangerous?"
Giles cleared his throat to speak but Buffy beat him to, "Mom, I'm
not going to lie to you, yes it is. Most slayers have very short
lives."
"Miss Summers, there is a difference this time though. Buffy will be
the most well equipped slayer in history. She has me, a powerful
witch in Jenny, a doctor at our disposal, and I very old master
vampire with a soul, so she will be the safest yet."
"I still need more proof", Joyce told them.
"Yes of course, I think I have the perfect idea. May I use your
phone", Giles asked and Buffy took him into the kitchen.
"Miss Summers, I know this is a lot to take in but we will take care
of her with our lives", Jenny assured her. Buffy looked at
Xander, "You seem to be taking this well".
"What I told your mom is the truth. When I told you not to go out
after dark, I hadn't put two and two together yet. I bet you thought
that was pretty stupid huh."
"No, I thought it was sweet", Buffy told the blushing boy. Giles came
back in to the living room, "I just got off the phone with Angel and
he tells me that there is a small nest of vampires that they are
going to take out tonight. We are going to meet them there." Xander
looked at him with questioning eyes, "They?" Giles simply nodded his
head and turned to Buffy, " We keep a safe distance and observe. This
should be good for you too."
"Well I guess it is a date then, Mr. Giles would you all like to stay
for dinner tonight", Joyce asked them all.

Meanwhile across town in an old mansion a tall dark man asked his
companion, "So what is this new slayer like"?
"Yum, can you say hot and hot some more", his friend told him.
"We are meeting Giles tonight to convince her mom we are real," Angel
said.
"Do they usually tell the parents", came the voice from the other
side of the room.
"No but nothing about this is the same as usually", the old master
vampire said in a sarcastically voice.
"You sound like you don't like this", his apprentice asked.
"Can say that I do but we shall see".
