"Angel", Willow asked the dark haired vampire as they made there
way through the cemetery, "Do you remember a few months ago you asked
me when the last time I made it through the day sober."
"Yeah if I recall you told me you couldn't remember when that was."
"Today, well actually the last couple of days. I have been sober for
three days straight."
Angel stopped and looked at her, he had known something seemed
different but he hadn't been able to put his finger on it, "Will, I
am so proud of you." Angel lifted her off her feet and hugged her.
"It feels good. My mind is clear. These last few months have been so
good. Even Xander talked to me yesterday. I think Buffy may have had
something to do with that but who am I to look a gift horse in the
mouth. He seems happy with Giles and I am so glad that he finally got
out of that house."
Angel set her back on the ground and lifted her face so he could look
into her eyes, "So when can we get you out of yours, little one."
"I don't know, Miss Summers told me I can stay with her if I wanted
to but I think that would be a little uncomfortable, you know with
Buffy and I dating."
"There is always Jenny and Shelly, I am sure they would be more then
happy to let you stay with them, Will."
"I know, for the first time in a long time, I feel like maybe there
is hope. I feel like I have a future", Willow sat down on a tombstone
and smiled, "She makes me feel complete. She is the first thing I
think about when I get up in the morning, the last thing I think
about at night and you could not believe how many times in between."
Angel sat down beside her and studied the young red head beside him.
He couldn't believe how much she had changed in the few months that
she had been seeing Buffy. Xander had told him that she had been
coming to school daily and actually going to classes. He frowned and
shook his head, he still wasn't happy about her living in that home
though. The one thing that hadn't changed were the bruises on her. If
anything they had been worse. Willow saw the sadness in his
eyes, "Hey were is this sadness coming from?"
"I just worry about you. Things seem to be going well for you; I just
hate to see you stay at home. It's gotten worse."
"I know I honestly for once don't know how much more I can take."
Angel sat taking in what Willow had said, not once in the five years
he had known her had she ever admitted that something was too much
for her.
Willow looked at her mentor, "Don't say anything to Buffy, she would
go ballistic and I'm afraid she would do something stupid."
Before Angel had a chance to reply he saw Buffy and Giles headed for
them. Willow jumped up and ran to her girlfriend and kissed her, "Hey
you, how was your night?"
"Not to bad we staked a few vamps but it was pretty slow. You guys
have any luck?"
"Not much just this really ugly demon, Angel took care of him and we
have just been having a really nice talk."
"Care to share."
"I was just tell him about this girl I fell in love with", Willow
said and smiled.
"Oh really anyone I know?"
"Maybe, I'll introduce you sometime." Buffy was getting ready to
kiss Willow when Angel and Giles interrupted them.
"I think we are going to take off now", Angel told them. After they
watched the two older men leave, Buffy turned and looked at
Willow, "Now where were we?" Willow leaned into her
girlfriend, "Right about here, I think", and began to run her fingers
through Buffy's hair and pulled her into a kiss. Buffy worked her
hands under Willow shirt and cupped her breast. Willow moaned and
deepened the kiss.
"Buffy", Willow said breathlessly, "As much as I want this, I don't
want your first time to be in a graveyard."
"Stay with me tonight, then."
"Honey, I can't. My parents are home and I'm going to get in trouble
as it is, it'll only be worse if I don't come home tonight." Buffy
tried to hide her anger for her red headed girlfriend's parents.
"I know, I know. My hormones are just getting the better of me
tonight. I feel like I'm going to explode. Come on, let's get out of
here before I decide to kidnap you and hold you hostage." Buffy and
Willow walked out of the cemetery holding hands. They got to where
they would have to separate and head to there respective houses,
Willow kissed Buffy, "I love you, Buffy Summers."
"I love you too. I'll see you tomorrow. Call me if you need me."
Buffy kissed her one last time and watched her until she was out of
sight, then turned and headed home.
Willow saw that all the lights were out in the house and breathed a
sigh of relief. She opened the door and headed straight for her room.
She had almost made it when her stepfather came out of his room.
Willow noticed that he staggered a little before he saw her.
"Well, well, if it isn't the little fucking troublemaker. Where the
hell have you been", he yelled.
"Where's mom?"
"She had to go back to LA for a meeting tomorrow. I thought I'd stay
for another day." Willow knew that she needed to get to her room but
he was blocking the path to her door. She tried to walk around him
but he grabbed her arm, "You didn't answer my question. Where have
you been" Willow could see the look in his eyes that she had not seen
in a long time, "No where just leave me the hell alone", and tried to
pull her arm away. Before she could even register what he was doing
her shoved her against the wall and smacked her across the face, "You
stupid bitch, who do you think you are talking to me like that. I
think someone needs to be taught who the boss is around here." He
punched her in the stomach and pushed her into her room. He threw her
onto the bed, took off his belt and used it to tie her hands to the
headboard. Willow used her legs and kicked at him but he put a stop
to that when he moved on top of her straddling her waist. Her grabbed
a handful of hair and pulled her face up to his and kissed her. She
could smell the alcohol on his breath and had to fight the urge to
vomit.
"It's been a long time Willow since I've had to teach you a lesson
like this"; he said and hit her again and again. He ripped open her
shirt and threw it to the side. He pulled his large pocketknife out
of his back pocket and used it to cut open her bra. He ran the blade
down her stomach, "Such pretty skin. It seems such a shame to have to
mess it up." Willow could no longer hold back her scream and was
rewarded with a blow to the head that left her almost unconscious.
She couldn't see but she felt him get up and cut the pants away and
then did the same thing to her underwear. He brought the knife back
up to her breast and ran the edge over it. Willow cried out in pain
and finally succumbed to unconsciousness. She wasn't sure how long
she was out but when she woke up, he was gone and the house was
quiet. Willow tried to stand up but fell back onto the bed. She
rested for a minute and tried again. She knew she had to get out. She
dug through her closet and threw some clothes in her duffle bag. She
sat down at her desk and wrote a letter to Buffy. She knew that her
running away would be painful for Buffy but Willow knew that there
was no way that Buffy would be able to understand. She put the letter
in her back pocket and slipped quietly out of her house.
Willow climbed the tree outside of Buffy window. She opened the
window and climbed in. She put the letter on the dresser where she
was sure Buffy would find it in the morning. Before she climbed back
out the window she took one last look at the woman that held her
heart. She headed out the window and made her way to the bus station.
She was just in time to catch a bus to LA.
Across town, just as the bus that was carrying Willow away pulled
out, the slayer sat up in bed and cried out for Willow. Moonlight
filled the room and she saw the letter sitting on top of the dresser.
Buffy jumped out of bed, tears filling her eyes as she read it.
"MOM", Buffy yelled and slid to the floor. Joyce found her daughter
sitting on the floor of her room and sat down beside her. Buffy
looked at her mom and handed her Willow's letter, "She's gone".
