Well Dan I don't know what you've been taught, but I asked my favorite Aunt that same question (she's my favorite because my family consider's her this eccentric gypsy) and this is what she told me:

Ever had those moment when everything seems to go blank? Just for a second and no one else seems to know it or notice it but you? 

That's a stitch in time. And everytime one happens, 9 minutes of your life have been saved to be added onto the end.

If that's true I'll be living a 'long' time.
