Re: "Help" review, and disclaimers-A-Go-Go!

Just catching up on some old stuff while watching the Series in the PIP
window on my TV....

Whoa, Strife, you liked the ep even less than I did? That's a harsh way
to spend a Tuesday.

As for continuing the reviews just to snark at the eps, I don't think
so. That seems kind of empty. I want to at least have the hope that
the show would be enjoyable and right now, BtVS hasn't done that since
"Normal Again" (barring some parts of "Seeing Red" and "Beneath
You"--yes, "Same Time, Same Place" didn't offend, but it didn't really
entertain, either).

You could even compare it to the difference between Season Two and
Season Sux: I can handle bad episodes when there are also good ones,
where the possibilty of happiness makes the tragedy even sharper. What
I can't enjoy is an endless miasma of depression and dreariness.
Rambling episodes that lack wit, pacing, humor, vampires as villains,
and a sense of joie de vivre are not enough to make me overcome my
thematic objections to Spike the Heroic Rapist and Dawn the Vampire
Slayer and Willow the Murdering Junkie (whose function is only to worry
about controlling her magic--God, Please.Shut.Up.Now.) and all the
other character-assassinating things I see on the show these days. I
watch "Buffy" for lots of things, and of late I haven't seen them.

But even if "Selfless" proves to be my swan song, I'll be willing to
come back if people tell me things have improved. I just don't want to
watch for the sake of watching--I want to watch because I want to
watch, if you know what I mean.

Ya know Dan, I think you liked this ep better then I did. Most of my
smiles/chuckles were kinda...half-assed. The only thing I can really say is
that I want you to keep up the reviewing...I find your reviews more funny
than the actual eps. Although, I kinda liked the second and third eps. I'm
just praying they'll get better. *Sheeya right!*
