Re: W/T, Gay, Bi, Nov12 spoilers, the works

Everyone can probably complete this quote, and see the
relevence.
"Opinions are like ___"

Clue: It doesn't offend until you start sticking it in
other people's faces

I wrote this last night, and I was only going to post
it if nobody had said anything like it yet;
unfortunately it looks like it gets posted

The non-spoiler bit:

It's a sad state when every move the writers make is
interpreted as an a mistake, an amateurish attempt to
cover a mistake, making a political statement or
pandering to an audience. Writers do all these things,
but they do something else as well: tell a story, and
nobody seems to have seriously considered that
explanation. Unless you know what someone is trying to
do you can't tell if they've failed.

So, Willow seemed to feel the need to advertise her
choice at every opportunity. It does jar, but only if
you assume that everything really was perfect. Maybe
she was still seeking more approval from her friends,
maybe she was still having doubts about her
orientation, maybe she was so happy she just had to
shout it out to the world.

What is clear it that she didn't want anyone to forget
it, perhaps why will be explained later, perhaps not.

How do we tell if we're being fair?
Just one question: If Willow had been Gay, then went
het and stated the fact at every opportunity, what
would you think?

Now the (slightly) spoilery bits

Are

You

sure

you

want

to

look

You feel attracted to someone of the 'wrong' sex. So
you change them. It's completely insane; if we take
what appears to be the minority choice, and give the
writers the benefit of the doubt, there must be an
angle. My best shot it that, somewhat like the
kittens, Willow herself would feel that being
attracted to a male was dishonouring Tara's memory.
She 'knows' that could never happen, so she rectifies
the situation. That's probably the nicest
interpretation (there are others...)
