I dunno, I think they've managed to juggle them well for the most part. And
just between you and me, I'd rather see fruit ripen than Connor! What a
waste of space that could just as easily be filled by Fred! (I got a thing
for girls who are attractive without being aware of their beauty. And
apparantly so does Joss; witness Willow, Tara, Fred and Kaylee.) Connor's
kinda like Spike; when he's not evil, he's just a lump! The jury's still out
on Wes.
Besides, this being a Mutant Enemy production, odds are that someone's gonna
die in the near future. Personally my money's on Shepherd, but I'd much
rather seem Jayne die. He's a Baldwin brother, that should be your first
clue. Give him a Liverpool accent and call him Spike and get it over with!
The thing to remember is that this ain't Buffy. It's an entirely different
animal. No big world-saving quest, no sense of destiny, simply a struggle to
survive. And so far it's been a fun ride.
I read someone compare the Fox Friday night lineup to a similar lineup nearly
ten years ago; a quirky comedy-action that mixed science fiction and
western(The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr.), followed by an eerie
mysterious SF show(The X-Files). Here's hoping that both Firefly and John
Doe enjoy a better fate than poor Briscoe; it may have been cheese, but it
was fun cheese. And I'll watch anything with Bruce Campbell!
