Obrigada, I saw your analysis of Jonathan's locker combination and
had to check it out. Here's what I came up with. This was written at
3am. Bear with me. LolEpisode 36: Dead man's party vs. Episode 129:
Conversations with dead people
1st resemblance: Drywall mishaps
36: Joyce hits her hammer through the wall (she is hanging the tribal
mask). She uses the mask to cover the hole.
129: Dawn hits the wall with the crossbow and takes a piece of
drywall out while retrieving the bolt. She uses a plant to cover the
hole.
2nd resemblance: Encounters with dead people
36: The dead are alive. They attack the party at Buffy's.
129: The dead are present. They attack Buffy, Willow and Dawn
physically and/or verbally.
3rd resemblance: Foreshadowing
36: Buffy dreams about Angel, who at that time is dead, in Hell.
Buffy: (looks at him) I'm afraid.
Angel: (shrugs and looks at her) You should be.
Angel is warning her, somehow foreshadowing the future.
129: The three dead people (The Vamp, Joyce and Cassie) also warn
them. Buffy about her relationships and her inner turmoil/problems;
Willow about killing everyone if she continues to use magic; Dawn
about Buffy being her enemy eventually. Foreshadowing?
4th resemblance: Disconnected
36: Since Buffy has returned to Sunnydale, she feels excluded from
her friends' lives. She feels she doesn't fit in anymore.
129: Buffy tells the vamp that her friends couldn't possibly
understand her, that she's all alone, etc. She feels disconnected
from her friends.
5th resemblance: Running away
36: Buffy decides to run away again and packs up her things. Willow
and her mom catch her.
129: Buffy tries to run away from the intimate conversation with the
vamp.
6th resemblance: No one understands me: the Superiority/Inferiority
complex
36: Willow and Buffy argue about Buffy's running. Buffy plays the "no
one understands me cause I'm the Slayer" card. She feels that the
burdens that come with being the Slayer makes her better in some way,
more important, but that also victimizes her. She plays the martyr.
129: She does the same thing with the vamp. Superiority/Inferiority
complex discussion ensues.
Interesting Quote:
Xander: You can't just bury stuff, Buffy. It'll come right back up
to get you.
(Is this a clue that the next evil is a dead Big Bad from the past?)
7th resemblance: The Baddie or People aren't always what they seem
36: The Baddie is Pat, Joyce's book club friend.
129: Cassie isn't really Cassie. She ends up being the new unknown
Big Bad in disguise. Spike is turning people, chip and soul included.
Goes to show how much you actually know people.
8th resemblance: Willow/Buffy, the kinda gay thing
36: The ep ends with Buffy and Willow making up over mochas. I also
get a feeling from Buffy that Willow's rejection is what hurts her
the most during that episode.
129: The vamp mentioning that Scott told everyone at Sunnydale High
that Buffy was gay. This is the first time Joss has used the word gay
to describe Buffy (even though we know Scott did that with every one
of his exs because he is the gay one). Still, with all the
Buffy/Willow subtext that has been going on for years, it's a step in
the right direction.
Buffy/Willow subtext quote from ep 19:
Ford: (About Willow) Nice girl!
Buffy: There aren't two of those in the world.
Episode 19: Lie to me vs. Episode 129: Conversations with dead people
1st similarity: When things get rough, run.
19: Buffy sees Angel talking with Drusilla. Instead of confronting
him about she runs. When Giles gives her the night off and suggests
she spend time with Angel, she brushes it off, saying Angel might
have plans. She'd rather avoid him than face him.
129: I think Buffy's insecurities; neurosis and relationship patterns
are well discussed in this Ep. Although it might have seemed that
only Spuffy was discussed, Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Riley also fit the
profile. Again, when it gets too personal, Buffy tries to bail.
2nd similarity: I'm a guy, lemme backstab you
19: Ford, who used to be Buffy's bestest bud, backstabs her. He's
sick, wants to be turned into a vamp, betraying Buffy in the process.
129: See conversation about Buffy's previous relationships. All the
guys end up hurting and leaving her.
3rd similarity: (Angel Quote from ep 19.) There's a lot about me you
don't know.
19: Angel tells Buffy that she doesn't know him. I think Drusilla was
a good example of that. Also, Buffy thought she knew Ford but didn't.
Chantarelle, Ford and all the vampire-wannabes at the Sunset Club
also didn't know vampires very well.
129: Buffy thought she knew Spike but she didn't know that he had
been siring people either. Then, the Cassie being the Big Bad deal
(see above)
Episode 27: Phases vs Episode 129: Conversations with dead people
#1: You don't know who I really am
27: First, Oz looking at the cheerleader statue, inside of which is
trapped Catherine Madison. It seems to be a trophy, by looking at it,
you'd never know it contains a person. Second, Buffy saying this
about Oz: Well, I think it's nice that he's not just being an animal
(about he and Willow waiting to have sex). Unbeknownst to her, Oz is
a werewolf. Third, in gym class, Buffy is supposed to be this meek
little girly-girl, not the Slayer. She can't show her strength
because people don't know who she really is. Last but not least,
macho guy Larry reveals he's gay.
129: See above, ep 36 and 19, people not being who/what they seem to
be.
#2 Rainbow colored banter.
27: Yummy Willow/Buffy subtext quote:
Larry: Man! Oz, I would love to get me some of that Buffy and Willow
action, if you know what I mean. (laughs)
Plus Larry being gay.
129: The gay Buffy comment, Scott being gay, Gay Willow talking to
her dead lesbian lover through Cassie. I see a theme here.
Recap!
3 main themes:
Buffy being isolated from her friends.
People never being what they appear to be.
Everybody's gay. It's in the water! *wink*
There must be a reason why the numbers are in that sequence. And the
numbers might not even be about the episodes? But if they are, here
are my predictions.
Buffy will be the Big Bad this season. And she'll get together with
Willow.
The chances of that being accurate! Lol
Or maybe the next Big Bad will be a lying-gay-tribal-mask-wearing-
vampire-werewolf-hybrid.
Eh, who knows?
