Uh, another suggestion; maybe the story line followed the series up to 
'Lover's Walk', but the infamous 'Fluke' brought out Buffy's jealousy, 
prompting her to confide her feelings for Willow while she and Oz were on the 
outs. Thus Cordy's pain is a factor, and Buffy and Willow's relationship in 
this story is explained.
