A minute later they came to one of the unused bedrooms and Giles 
said you can use this bedroom we keep it ready for guests.Lara said 
ok let me just put my suitcase inside and then we can continue onto 
the library.Giles handed Lara the suitcase and she opened the door 
and carried it into the bedroom.Lara looked around the bedroom and 
she saw that it was very nice and had a comfortable feel to it.

Giles and Lara went to the library and they sat down in chairs close 
together.Lara said can we please continue where we left off and Giles 
said of course.Lara said why exactly were you fired from the 
watcher's council and why did Buffy break all ties from them.Giles 
said it was all because of a test that all slayers are given when 
they reach their eighteenth birthday to see if they are worthy of 
being slayers.Lara said bloody hell isnt it enough that they have to 
fight vampires and demons almost every night enough for the watcher's 
council.Giles said no not to them it isnt.Lara said did Buffy pass 
the test or what.Giles said yes she passed the test but let me tell 
you what the test is.Giles said the test is that a slayer is to go up 
against a vampire without her slayer strength or other abilities.Lara 
said how is that possible.Giles said Buffy was injected with a 
chemical solution which temporarily robbed her of her slayer strength 
and abilities.Lara said bloody damn.Giles said its worse than you 
think because it was i who gave her the injections.Lara jumped to her 
feet and said how could you do such a bloody thing Giles.Giles said i 
really didnt have a choice.Giles said the watcher's council sent 
another watcher to observe the test and if i had not given her the 
injections he would have.Lara said you should have told Buffy about 
the test.Giles said i would have if i had known about them prior to 
his arrival.Lara said you didnt know about them and Giles said no i 
didnt the test is kept secret even among the watcher's council so 
only the council board and the watcher's assigned to slayers who have 
passed the test know about it.Lara said exactly how many slayers have 
passed the test in the past century.Giles said only one and thats 
Buffy but there is another slayer who is twenty three but she also 
broke ties to the watcher's council.Lara said two slayers how is that 
possible you told me several years ago there is only one slayer at a 
time.Giles said Buffy was drowned by a master vampire while back in 
High school but her friend Xander brought her back to life by giving 
her cpr.Lara said why were you fired if Buffy passed the test.Giles 
said because i tried to interfere in the test by going to help 
Buffy.Lara said i understand and i am glad that you did.Giles said so 
am i although for a while me,Buffy,and her mother Joyce were not on 
very good terms.Lara said her mother knows that she is a slayer.Giles 
said yes she has known since Buffy was in high school.Lara thought of 
something and she said Giles why do you live with all these young 
people.Giles said i live with them because we are sort of a family 
and we all support Buffy in her fight both by doing research and by 
standing alongside her on the frontline if she needs help.Lara said 
Giles how can you let such young people risk their lives like 
that.Giles said Lara each of those young people decided on their own 
to help Buffy and me fight and they are each special in their own 
way.Lara said what do you mean.Giles said well Amy and Tara are both 
quite powerfull witches,Anya is an ex demon who is over 1100 years 
old,Oz is a werewolf,Xander has the memories and skills of a former 
green beret,and Willow is a very powerfull wiccan following the old 
ways as well as a computer expert.Lara said thats quite a team and 
Giles said yes it is and they all consider me and Joyce as parents 
one way or another.Lara said what about their own parents.Giles said 
well i just have to say is that except for Joyce those who are still 
living are a waste of the human gene pool.Lara said well at least now 
they have someone they can look up at.

Lara looked over at Giles and she said do you remeber when we bumped 
into each other twelve years ago at the Lion's roar pub near the 
London Museum.Giles laughed and said yes i had gone there to get a 
drink after a long exhausting day of going through a shipment of 
items that were to be shown at the museum the following week.Lara 
said yes and i invited you to sit with me and we drank quite a bit 
that night.Giles said yes we did and that was when you told me about 
the Illuminati and what they had tried to do.Lara said and after i 
was finished telling you about them you told me about the watcher's 
council and slayers and the demons and vampires they fought.Giles 
said that was an enlightening night for both of us and Lara said you 
say that again.Lara said have you guys had any contact with the 
watcher's council since then.Giles said well they sent a replacement 
for me but he left a while later since he couldnt get Buffy to listen 
to him.Giles looked at Lara and he said what about you have you heard 
anything from the Illuminati.Lara said well i hadnt up until two 
weeks ago but then they popped back into my life.

Lara said let me start at the beginning.Lara said about a month ago 
i was in Italy exploring some ruins of an old estate and what i think 
was a tower but instead of it going up it went down into the ground 
which was connected to the estate.Giles said go on.Lara said well i 
didnt find much of anything interesting in the ruins of the estate 
but the same cant be said about the tower.Giles said may i ask what 
it is that you found.Lara said i found a number of books which were 
in perfect condition and that were supposed to have been destroyed or 
lost.Giles said its one of these books that the Illuminati is 
interested in i take it.Lara said yes it is but i cant be sure of 
which one they are after.Giles said may i see the books i may be able 
to either identify them on sight or by referring to my collection of 
books.Lara said of course and then she picked up her attache case and 
laid it down on the top of the table in front of them.After unlocking 
the attache case Lara opened it up and she took six books out of 
it.Lara said these are the books i found.Giles picked up one of the 
book and he looked at the front cover which had a number of runes on 
it.Lara said i didnt recognize the runes and there was nothing in my 
family library that matches them.Giles said Lara thats because these 
runes are of the magic variety and havent been used in quite a couple 
of centuries either.Lara said so you recognize them i know bringing 
them to you was the right thing to do.Giles said i do recognize them 
although i cant translate them.Lara said is there any chance that you 
might know someone who can.Giles smiled and he said yes i know 
someone who can translate them let me call Willow up here.Lara looked 
at Giles and said Willow can translate them.Giles said yes Willow was 
taught in a number of ancient magics alongside Wiccan and she knows a 
lot of the different types of magic runes.

Giles walked over to the entercom and he pressed the button and said 
Willow report to the library immedietly.A few seconds later Buffy 
answered and she said she is on her way Giles.Giles said thanks Buffy 
and i promise not to keep her too long from you.Buffy said ok we were 
just doing our daily workout we wont mind missing it today.Giles 
pressed the button and said you can both continue your workout this 
afternoon an hour or two after we have eatten lunch.

When Willow reached the library she asked Giles what he needed her 
to do.Giles said Willow i need you to translate the runes on the 
cover of this book that Lara found.Willow walked over to the table 
and she said which book is it.Giles said its this one and he handed 
it to her.Lara said actually all the books have runes that i couldnt 
recognize so they all may be magical runes.Willow looked at the book 
and she was shocked after reading the runes.Willow put the book down 
and rubbed her eyes before looking back down at the book.Willow said 
i cant believe what i am reading.Giles said what is it Willow.Willow 
said Giles according to the runes this book belonged to and was 
written by Numei.Giles grabbed the book from off the table and he 
said oh my lord.Lara said Giles who was this Numei.Giles said Numei 
was the son of Merlin and his wife.Lara said the Merlin.Giles said 
yes the Merlin but his son Numei is even more famous in the magical 
world.Lara said what is he famous for.Willow said Numei created the 
first ever school for wizards and witches.Giles said Lara you 
mentioned that you found the book in a tower that went down into the 
ground and was connected to an estate that was in Italy.Lara said yes 
but what does that matter.Giles said Lara the school in question was 
supposed to be a tower somewhere in Italy but no one could ever find 
it not even the watcher's council who strongly wanted to close it 
down.Lara said you mean i found the ruins of the school that Numei 
founded.Giles said it seems that way.Lara said do you know what 
happened to the school.Giles said it was believed to have been closed 
down in the 1500's and by the looks of it its true.

Willow looked at Giles and she said Giles i have translated the 
runes on the other books do you want to know what they are or who 
they belonged.Giles said yes i do and i am certain that Lara wants to 
know as well.Willow said well these three books were written by 
Merlin himself and from the cover i have to say they are spellbooks.
Giles said spellbooks and Willow said yes but i cant be certain since 
i cant open them.Lara said why not and Willow said because the books 
have an enchantment on them which keep everyone except the owner or 
the designed heir from opening them.Lara said cant you use your magic 
to remove the enchantment.Giles said no she cant such an enchantment 
can only be removed by the one who cast it and Willow dare not try to 
do it because of the curse spells that were tied to such enchantments.
Lara said what about the other books what are they and who wrote 
them.Willow said well this book is a copy of Nostradamus's quatrains.
Lara said what was a copy of Nostradamus's quatrains doing in the 
ruins of Numei's magic school.Giles said Lara unknown to most of the 
world Nostradamus wasnt just a philosopher,seer,and doctor he was 
also a mage and he attended Numei's school.Lara thought a moment and 
she said if i remeber correctly Nostradamus disappeared suddenly when 
he was near his death.Willow said it stands to reason that he 
returned to Numei's school to live out his remaining days there.Giles 
said yes but by that time the school was supposed to have been closed 
so he would have been there all alone.Lara said Nostradamus liked his 
privacy very much and he wouldnt have minded being alone at all.Giles 
said Willow what is the last book.Willow smiled and she said its a 
tome that was written by Nostradamus and it contains all the magical 
knowledge he learnt through his lifetime or was taught at Numei's 
school.Lara said i take it that it also has a locking enchantment on 
it.Willow said actually it doesnt and the only spell on it is one 
that keeps it in perfect condition.

Lara said Giles what are we going to do with the books there is no 
place safe that i know of to take them.Giles said Willow you can 
leave me and Lara need to talk privately.Willow said ok and then she 
walked out of the library closing the door behind her.Giles looked at 
Lara and he said Lara if the Illuminati wants one or all of these 
books there is no safe place you can take them nor will you be safe 
if you know where they are.Lara said what can i do Giles i dont want 
to give them to the Illuminati there is no telling what they would do 
with them especially with the information thats in them.Giles thought 
a second and he said Lara i understand and i totally agree with you 
they cant get their hands on all the books.Lara said what do you 
mean.Giles said i suggest that you allow the Illuminati to get their 
hands on the three books that Merlin wrote.Lara said but Giles think 
of what they could do with them.Giles said there is nothing they 
could do with them because the books are bound by a locking 
enchantment.Lara said ok but what about the other books what can i do 
with them.Giles said well i would like to have the copy of 
Nostradamus's Quatrains and i doubt very seriously it is that they 
are after.Lara said yes there are at least three other copies of the 
Quatrains spread out around the world.Giles said as for the other two 
books it is best that they be split up and be given to people or 
groups that the Illuminati cant go up against or dont know about.Lara 
said does such a group that the Illuminati wont go against really 
exist.Giles said yes at least one of them does and its a worldwide 
organization called the Legacy.Giles said i suggest we send them the 
book that was written by Numei.Lara said but what about Nostradamus's 
Tome we need to find a safe place for it as well.Giles said i already 
have some people in mind to entrust it to but its better that i not 
say anything about them for their safety as well as that of the 
Tome.Lara said how soon can you get the books to them.Giles said the 
books can be in their possessions by midnight tonight if i make a 
call know.Lara said do it the sooner the books are away from me the 
better i will feel.
