First just wanted to say love the story so far! I
love AU fics and this is off to a great start. 

Secondly, I beg to differ with Dan's assessment of
indoor plumbing. I grew up in a small town in New
York. My grandfather (who came from money) often told
me that he didn't get indoor bathrooms or indoor
running water until he was 6. That would have been in
1920. My great-grandparents who lived on the
outskirts of town (which really isn't far from the in
skirts :)) didn't get indoor plumbing until the
1960's. So I can definetly see an Alaskan mining town
not having indoor plumbing in 1897. Just my 2 cents!
