okay. the problems i had with last night's episode:
1. giles. what the heck was that all about? they're going to tug us
along on this "is he or isn't he dead" thing for weeks, tell us last
week he's not the first, and this week explain away his miraculous
recovery/escape in the teaser? i don't think so. either something is
up in the state of denmark, or the writers seriously need to get off
the crack.
2. okay. the second thing has to do with giles, too. i know he's
the "adult," but do you think you could make him any more stuffy?
he's becoming first season giles all over again- he's giles
from "never kill a boy on the first date!" i know this season is all
about going back to the beginning, but give me a break. yes, he had
some valid points, what with the impending apocalypse and the
dating, but dude. you reach a point of hitting one over the head
with it.
3. xander. i love xander from seasons 1-3, but starting with season
4 they started making him into a pansy-ass annoying boy who doesn't
even get the funny lines any more. his scene with ashanti? sucked.
perhaps it's cause she can't act, but i think the writers just
aren't giving him good stuff anymore.
4. and speaking of ashanti- could that little plot line have been
any flimsier? it wasn't needed. really. there could have been a
thousand different ways to introduce spike and wood (he he- get
it?).
5. the first was even boring. they could at least write the thing
that is supposed to be so evil a little better.
6. so, buffy didn't tell anyone about taking spike's chip out until
now? huh. and how much do the potentials really know about spike and
the chip? it didn't seem like much of anything, even kennedy. and i
gotta say, if she's getting all hot and heavy with willow, willow
needs to be a little more honest with her.

i need to watch it again to see if there are any redeeming qualities
to the episode. anya was good; i liked the exchange between her and
buffy in the bathroom. i liked the buffy and willow scene as willow
folded socks. it was nice to see some of their old buddy-ness
happening. and i unfortunately knew the wood/slayer thing was coming
cause i'd read some spoilers, so i didn't really have much of a
reaction to it tonight.

i just re-read what i wrote, and i seem to be fairly down on the
episode. i think i should watch it once more before passing final
judgement.
