Aw,
Gee,
I
knew
I'd
get
smacked
for
slacking
like that...
Okay, first, welcome to new folks and I guess a quick refresher course
in SPOILER rules wouldn't be remiss. (Actually, I know I've said this
all a billion times before, which is why I've taken to skipping it. But
here we go again.
For ONE WEEK (after the initial US airing), discussion of the episode
(even as vagued up as Oso did) must be preceded in your post by TWENTY
LINES of SPOILER SPACE. This is so that people whose mail opens
sequentially don't delete a message, and find info on an ep they haven't
seen yet (because they haven't had time to play their tape or they live
in a city where BtVS airs later in the week or was pushed back by a
sporting event or other program change). It's a courtesy.
In addition, any post containing discussion of the episode must contain
the warning SPOILERS in the subject line. If you're just discussing the
current ep, you can put "SPOILERS for ep", so that folks know you're not
talking about FUTURE plot points. If you ARE talking about future plot
points, please put "SPOILERS for upcoming eps" or "SPOILERS for ep 7.16"
or something like that.
Do NOT reply to a post and leave out the SPOILER SPACE. It's just as
important in every post.
Do NOT reply to a post about the current ep and start talking about
SPOILERS for FUTURE eps, UNLESS you change the subject line to reflect
this.
Do NOT characterize your post in ANY way in your subject line. Not
"Oooh, yeah! SPOILERS for tonight's ep" or "Disturbing SPOILERS for
May" or "Willow/Kennedy romance--SPOILERS". You can tell people your
opinion after they've made the decision to be spoiled and scrolled down
past your SPOILER SPACE, so don't throw it in their faces unless they
decide they want to read it.
Do NOT be an idiot. The ultimate bad Subject Line was on a post on the
Faithful list two years ago, which read (and I quote): "Faith Dies!
SPOILER!" Not only did this person seem to have a very weak grasp of
what "Spoiler" meant, but they also had the wrong rumor.
Because our main page ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buffywantswillow )
does not show blank space in it's "Preview Panes" in the recent messages
section, your SPOILER SPACE must contain some text (either words like
I've used above, or just "SPOILER SPACE" or whatever running down the
lines). Otherwise, people visiting the main page would be in danger of
being spoiled against their will. (It's happened to me several times,
which is why I'm crabby about it.) Likewise, the panes don't show text
copied from another post, so if you're reusing someone else's spoiler
space, PLEASE remember to start your post with a couple of sentences of
non-spoilery chat.
And that's about the it. Hope this helps.
Belatedly,
Dan
