Hear, Hear and well said.
My own two cents is that buffy is deluding herself about more
than spike. She keeps going on about being the slayer and the chosen
one, but it seems to me that she lost that job when she died the first
time.
She died and Kendra was Chosen.
Kendra died then Faith was Chosen.
So it seems that Faith is the Slayer and the Chosen One, and
buffy gets sorta an honorable mention. That she still has the slayer
abilities is a gaff on some higher power's part.
Further as the source of the instability that the FE is taking
advantage of, it seems the easiest way to solve things would be to
kill her off again. She was whining about being taken out of Heaven,
she can be sent back. Thus the instablility would fade away (not
right away, plenty of time for some more mayhem).

As for spike ... well, Pol Pot had a soul also. I think he
should have bargained for a conscience to. And his bing the strongest
fighter? I would award that to Willow, though as a fanboy my
judgement is suspect. She has already beaten buffy, anya(the demon),
giles, then healed herself of her wounds, then stole more power so she
is stronger now. 
I'd kinda like to glory make a return appearence, now that Willow
is stronger and has shown a habit of powerstealing.
