Chapter 3
Buffy and Giles stared at Willow, as she stared at them with an
outstretched hand.
"Huh," Buffy, while knowing that Willow might like feel this, was
still shocked. She had assumed that, as it was evident that her best
friend had evidently died earlier that she would know she was not a
vampire.
"You know, stake. Sharp wooden stick, commonly used to kill demons
and vampires. Usual weapon of a slayer, that's you Buff, in her fight
against . . ."
"I know what a stake is Willow. And you can take a breath now, you
aren't a vampire you still need air." Even now Buffy had to smile at
the Wiccan. "And since you need air, it should be obvious you don't
need a stake. Not that it would do any good."
Giles at this point broke in. "If you'll excuse me, I think this is
probably the one time that my background in the mythological
application of the present circumstances is outweighed by the more
intimate knowledge of . . ."
"What he's trying to say, is that I know more than him, so he'll go
make some tea. Isn't that right Giles, while I tell Willow
everything." Buffy smiled at her watcher.
"Yes, well, that was what I was trying to . . ."
"Go Giles."
Giles left the room to the two teenagers, muttering slowly under his
breath about the American educational system.
"Buffy?"
Buffy turned to see Willow now curled up into a ball staring at her.
"What's going to happen to us now I'm a demon?"
"WHAT!!" Buffy stared at Willow in horror. "Willow! You are not a
demon. Never say something like that. Understand!"
"NO! I don't understand Buffy. How can I understand! I'm sitting
doing normal work on the computers, when Spike comes in and shoves me
into a wall, shatters a monitor over my head, then snaps my neck.
Then I somehow wake up and decide to find my best friend to find out
more, and she promptly guts me with a sword! I mean why else would
you do that. It's because of you're slayer senses. You sensed me as a
demon and killed me . . . again. I think. Oh, my, I must have been
attacking you. I've lost my soul. I tried to kill my best friend. Oh
Goddess. I'm sorry Buffy, I didn't mean to try and hurt you. I
didn't. I didn't. I didn't"
If possible Willow was now curled up tighterinto a ball than before,
curled into the corner of the sofa, while Buffy, taken aback by the
sheer vitriol of Willow's attack on herself remained stock still. At
last however, she reacted.
"Willow." Buffy's voice was soft, knowing that if she shouted Willow
would just withdraw even further into herself. She sat down next to
her friend and drew her protesting form into her arms. "Willow look
at me." Her friend's eyes slowly raised to meet hers, and Buffy's
heart broke all over again for her. "You are NOT a demon Willow. This
is something different okay."
"But . . ."
"No Willow, let me finish. This has nothing to with demons, vampires
or the Hellmouth. For once this isn't something to do with Sunnydale.
You didn't wake up because you're a demon or anything but human. It's
because you're an immortal Wills. Just. Like Me."
"Just like. . . You mean we'll live forever."
At Willow's slight smile Buffy beamed. She hugged her friend harder,
luxuriating in embracing her . . . Buffy's thought processes suddenly
froze. 'I haven't felt this since. Oh my. But I'm not gay. I mean
Angel, Parker and I thought about that army guy Riley, before their
unit left.'
"Buffy?"
Her thoughts continued to whirl. 'I mean I don't think about girls
like that. I mean lets think about this. I know, we'll test it. Riley
hunkiness. Hmm, good. Cordelia. . . EWWW! Willow . . . Oh My God!'
Buffy looked down at her best, sexy, 'sexy!' friend. To see her face
an even brighter shade of red than her hair.
"Wha . . .?"
Willow replied to Buffy's unspoken question. "Uh, Buffy, um. You . .
sort of. . . , were. . ., er. . ., thinking a aloud."
"Oh God. Willow, I mean don't hate me. I didn't mean to hurt you. I
mean I can control myself! You don't have to leave. Don't leave me.
Please, Willow. I know you don't think of me that way. Though. No.
Bad Buffy. Mustn't picture wild sex with best female friend. I'll be
good. I'll . . . mmmph."
Buffy's diatribe against herself came to a sudden stop as Willow
pressed her lips against those of the slayer. For a few seconds they
just stayed there in that position. Willow was pressed into Buffy by
her embrace, which had never lessened, with her head lifted to meet
the lips of the face above her. Taken aback by shock Buffy didn't
react for a moment, then groaned, staring to kiss Willow back.
Just as suddenly as it began the kiss broke, as Willow drew back once
again from Buffy. "Good."
"Mmm good." Buffy's entire body seemed to beam, with the crowning
point her enormous smile. "Willow smoochies. Always good."
Willow giggled. "Well yes, always. But I meant you liking me, . . .
like that. I love you to Buff. Even if this is a dream. Just like
always."
"A . . . dream?"
"Yeah. I mean, the dying waking up, best friend killing turning
immortal part is new, but that's just a symbol of the undying love I
have for you. 'Cause I want to live with you forever. The kissage,
that's pretty normal. Usually with less clothing on, but still . . .
wow. Never been that good before. I, I just wish I didn't have to
wake up and find you not looking at me . . . like that."
"Willow, this isn't a dream. Hold on, you dream about me, with less
clothes on. Hmm sounds nice."
"Yeah, nice. But it's all going to go away, and I don't want it to.
But it'll all dissapear when I wake up . . . OW! What did you do that
for?" Willow rubbed her arm frantically at her arm where Buffy had
pinched her. "Why did you do tha . . ." Willow stared at Buffy, down
at her arm again, then back at the grinning slayer. Slowly she moved
her hand to the same arm and gave herself another pinch. And looked
back up to Buffy holding her, staring in wonder. "It, . . ., it's not
a dream?"
"Nope." Buffy snuggled closer to Willow. "And I love you to Willow."
She pressed her lips against her new found lover. "Now rest. You've
had a very long day. Just sleep. I have you now. And I'm never
letting you go."
Willow smiled as Buffy rocked her in her arms, gradually slipping
deeper into Morpheus' realm, where Buffy swiftly followed.
Giles smiled softly from the door. He took off his glasses and rubbed
them against his shirt, not, as usual, in consternation, but
reflexively in joy. "About bloody time," he muttered as he gently
closed the living room door on the sleeping couple. "About bloody
time."
