I don't have any facts, but it definitely seems like things have died
between them since Season 4. The days when Sarah would hold up a sign
on "Saturday Night Live" saying "I love you, Aly! 'Willow' rules!" are,
I'm afraid, long gone.

Don't have a clue what might have caused it (the massive rearranging of
the filming schedule in S5 so SMG could shoot "Scooby-Doo"
simultaneously? Aly not cooperating with the musical while Sarah spent
months learning how to sing? Was SMG jealous of the success of
"American Pie"? Did AH demand too much money during the contract
negotiations after S5?), and I'd really like to know. Because I think
large portion of the Buffy/Willow subtext was the Sarah/Aly friendship
(all those unscripted hand-holdings and arm-linkages of the early
seasons) and I think the lack of it of late has hurt the on-screen B/W
chemistry (and thus, I would argue, the entire show).

Damn, now I'm depressed. Off to watch tonight's ep, for as long as I
can stand to :(
