Just jumping in here to address this French issue. French is the common
language used by a good chunk of Africa, and most of the Caribbean.
Probably something like 80% of Africans outside of Egypt speak French either
as a first or second language. Certainly far more than speak any other
language.

while English is of 20 countries, and a relation of population in these
countries of 190 to 350 million, French:English. Btw, 191 million speak
Arabic, though that includes Egypt. So French is the third most important
language in Africa.
