Willow stood outside the door of the university of Sunnydale
chapter of the lesbian alliance.
"You know you find out more if you actually go through the door."
Willow turned to the voice and was surprised to see the blonde
standing in the doorway, "Um yeah, I guess I was just lost in my own
thoughts. I'm new here and I was just wondering if they had some kind
of meeting or groups where I could meet new people."
"I'm Tara by the way and yes we do. Once a month we have a dance and
we have a meeting twice a month. I think the next dance is tomorrow.
So where you from?"
Willow studied the blonde standing before her. Tara was taller then
her but not by much and had the prettiest blue eyes she had ever saw.
She was wearing cargo pants and a tank top that didn't meet the
pants. "I'm Willow. LA, I went to UCLA but had to move here for
business."
"Well it's nice to meet you and who is this beautiful little thing?"
Tara asked bending down in front of the stroller.
"This is my sister Dawn."
Dawn smiled at the new person and looked at Willow. "Mama hungry."
Willow saw the look of confusion in Tara eyes, "Our mother died a few
years back and I have custody. When she learned to talk she started
to call me mama and I never corrected her. I'm the only mother she
knows."
"Wow, it must be hard to go to school and take care of a baby. Hell
it's hard for me to make it by myself," Tara said looking up at the
red head as she crouched in front of the stroller.
"It is but it's worth it to be a family. I'm the only one she has."
"Well I have to get to class. I hope to see you again. It was nice
meeting you, Willow."
"Nice meeting you too. See ya", Willow said and watched as Tara took
off, admiring the view. She looked at Dawn, "Well she was cute. Maybe
we can run into her again." Dawn clapped her hands together and
laughed.
Willow knocked on the door of the Giles' home and smiled when Joyce
answered the door, "Willow please come in." Willow picked Dawn up and
walked into the warm house. Willow hadn't noticed how warm and
inviting the house was the other night but today in the light she
could tell the love and comfort that could be found inside. She
followed Joyce into the living room and found Buffy, Xander, and
Cordy lazing on the couch.
"So did you get things taken care of today?"
"Yup, with my grades they had no problem letting me in and I got all
my classes for winter quarter picked out. It was a good day. How was
your afternoon?"
"Fine, thank you for asking. No one ever asks me that."
Buffy looked at the red head, "You're going to college?"
"Yeah I start in January. I really hate to miss this quarter but not
much I could do about it. There is no way I could get caught up now
and I really need to get settled here. I still need to find a daycare
for Dawn for the day and find a part time job."
Buffy was confused, "Aren't you like sixteen or something, how did
you get into college and get custody of the kid?"
"Buffy!" Joyce warned, "That's not any of your business."
"Sorry," Buffy said but she just wanted to know more about Willow.
Cordy was right she did have a crush on the red head. Buffy had spent
a lot of time staring at the house across the street when the movers
had been there.
"No it's ok, Mrs. Joyce. It's kind of a long story and your mom can
tell you sometime," Willow said and smiled at her reassuringly.
Buffy thought her heart was going to beat out of her chest, "Um?uh?
thanks."
"Mrs. Giles this was a wonderful dinner, thank you", Willow said
getting up and helping pick up the dishes.
"Willow please lets let the kids clean up and we can go into the
living room. I made some coffee and I know Rupert has some questions
for you", Joyce told her.
"Willow, I know that Joyce has volunteered to look after Dawn in
the evenings for you."
"Mr. Giles, is that ok", Willow looked at her Watcher. She knew she
should have asked him first before agreeing.
"Of course. Willow I know that the council has some rules and I know
that a Watcher is supposed to be more of a boss then a friend but I
know that Merrick wouldn't follow the rules and neither do I. I have
spoken to Simon today and he told me that you are the brightest
Slayer's he has seen in years and for Simon that is saying a lot.
Joyce is also very impressed with your maturity. So please call me
Giles. I know that you need a few more days to get ready but as soon
as possible I would like to continue with your training."
"Yes sir. I'm thinking Monday would be a good day to start, just tell
me when and where."
"That sounds splendid. I have a friend who owns a magic shop downtown
and he let me turn his storeroom into a training room. We can meet
there say about four. We can adjust things when you start school
around your classes."
"Thank you for understanding my need to continue my education. It
will come in handy if by some miracle I actually survive much
longer."
Buffy and her friends came into the living room, "Mom, we were
thinking about heading to the Bronze tonight. Can you give us a ride?"
Cordy looked at Buffy and then at Willow and an idea popped into her
head, "Hey Willow would you like to come with us? See the sights of
Sunnydale?"
"I can't, thank you for asking though."
"Yes why don't you go", Joyce asked, "I could watch Dawn. We could
call it a trail run. I had Rupert bring up Buffy's old crib and sat
it up in the spare room."
Willow thought for a second, "If your sure. I could take them. I have
a car."
"Sounds like a plan then. Dawn and I will have fun getting to know
each other and you can hang out with kids your own age, now go get
ready", Joyce said shooing the Slayer out the door toward her own
house, "the kids will be over when their ready."
The gang knocked on the door and waited for Willow to answer. Buffy
thought her knees were going to give out when she came to the door
wrapped in a towel, "Hey guys, I guess I'm kind of slow tonight. Come
on in." They walked in and could hear music coming from upstairs.
"Have a seat, I promise it will only take me a minute to finish.
There's pop in the fridge help yourself", Willow said and ran
upstairs.
Buffy looked around the room, she pick up a picture and put it down.
"Ok, I think I'm ready", Buffy heard and looked up. Buffy had to
concentrate to keep her mouth from hanging open. Willow was standing
at the bottom of the steps wearing tight jeans and a white t-shirt.
If Buffy looked real hard you could see her bra, not that she was
looking. `Yeah right', Buffy thought and mentally slapped herself.
She looked around and noticed that Xander and Cordy were looking at
her.
"Are you guys ready to head out?"
The four of them walked out the door and piled into Willow's black
jeep. Willow looked up at the sky and decided not to put the top on.
Willow loved to ride with the top off, it was one of the reason she
had chosen the jeep.
"Nice car", Xander said awkwardly not sure what to say.
"Thanks, so where exactly are we going", Willow asked?
"The Bronze is the local high school and college hangout. It's kind
of in the bad side of town."
"Where is the bad side?"
"Well Sunnydale is a small town so it's about two blocks from the
good side", Cordy told her.
Willow laughed and Buffy thought it was sweetest thing she had ever
heard.
Willow looked around the club; it was loud and full of teens and
young adults. Buffy led them to a free table and sat down.
Xander looked at Cordy, "Would like to dance sweetheart." They took
off toward the dance floor.
"So", Buffy said.
"Yup", Willow started but stopped when she was tapped on the
shoulder. She turned to see Tara standing behind her.
"Willow right? I said I hoped to see you again but I wasn't expecting
it to be so soon", Tara told her.
"Tara?yeah hey."
"So where's the cute little one tonight?"
"She with a friend. Tara I would like you to meet Buffy. Buffy this
is Tara."
"Nice to meet you", Buffy muttered.
"Willow would you like to dance."
"Yeah, Buffy would excuse me for a minute?" Buffy watched as they
made their way to the dance floor just as Xander and Cordy came back.
"Who's the girl with Willow," Cordy asked.
"Tara," Buffy said trying to keep the contempt out of her voice.
"Your friends seem a little young for you", Tara asked.
"They're kind of friends of friends. I'm surprised to see you here.
Good surprised."
"Well this is the place to hang out on Friday night."
Willow looked into her eyes, "So what's the thing to do on Saturday
night?"
"Order pizza and watch movie's at a red head's house", Tara smiled.
"Oh really and how many red head's do you know".
"One, you."
"Well then I guess I should give you my address then. You know I have
Dawn though."
"That's cool. That's why I thought we could just stay in on our first
date."
"First date with a two year old around is not very romantic?"
"Romance is highly overrated anyway but two year olds can be fun."
Buffy watched the two women dance and she had no doubt in her head
that Willow was being come on too. After two hours of dancing Buffy
saw Willow lead Tara to a dark corner and kiss her and not in a
friendly kind of way. Willow walked up to the table and sat down, "So
guys what's up with you?"
"So where did you meet Tara?" Cordy asked, trying to get the scoop
for her friend.
"On campus today."
"Oh, Well it's getting pretty late maybe we should get going", Buffy
said.
"Ok, is everything alright, Buffy?" Willow asked noticing how quiet
the blonde had been since her return to the table.
"Fine lets go." The foursome made their way out the door and to the
parking lot. Willow stopped and began to look around. She handed her
keys and cell phone to Buffy, "Guys there's a vampire close, if I
tell you to run jump in the jeep, lock the doors and call Giles."
Willow searched the darkness around her and settled on a dark corner,
"Ok, I know that you're there so just come out now." A blonde man
stepped out of the shadow in a black leather duster and made his way
over. Xander put his hand in his pocket and pulled out the stake he
was carrying and lunged for the vampire. The blonde didn't fight back
but kept the stake at arm's length.
"Red can you do something about this, please", the blonde asked.
Willow walked over and grabbed the back of Xander shirt and pulled
him off. Buffy stared at her best friend being held a foot off the
ground by the Slayer. She knew Slayers had super human strength but
to see it in person was different. She felt her face flush and her
mouth go dry. She had never seen someone with so much power and it
aroused her more then she could put words to.
Cordy watched as her boyfriend was being held off the ground and
turned to the Slayer, "If he promises not to do that again will you
please put my boyfriend down. I've grown kinda attached to him."
Willow looked up at Xander, "Now if I put you down will you promise
not to dust my friends."
Speechless Xander just nodded.
"Now William what the hell were you thinking, stalking in the
shadows?"
"Waiting on you, Pet."
"Don't pet me. What're you doing here?"
"Angel sent me. He has a book for your watcher. He wants me to stick
around for a bit and make sure you can handle what's going down."
"What is going down", Willow asked knowing that if Angel had sent
Spike then it must not be good.
"Besides you on that cute little blonde in there, don't know. Soul
boy didn't say."
Willow blushed and yelled, "Spike, we do not talk about my sex life
to stranger's. You don't talk about my sex life at all."
"You didn't used to say that."
Buffy shook her head, "Let me get this straight, you had sex with a
vampire?"
"Two of us actually", Spike answered.
"SPIKE, when I want you to talk I'll tell you until then shut up."
"God I love a forceful woman, don't you", Spike said and looked at
Xander.
"Spike and Angel are different, they were cursed with souls. They
used to work with me in LA. Spike works with the council to train
slayers."
"Willow, I was just teasing you. How's Dawn? I miss the little
munchkin."
"She misses you too. Come on get in the car. You can give the book to
Giles yourself and see Dawn."
Buffy and Xander exchanged glances and shrugged their shoulders.
`This is going to be a wild ride', Buffy thought to herself.
