Re: FF: Home
Yeah, delayed FB here, but doesn't that make it sweeter?
Good work, Connor. I liked how the anger and distance grew naturally
out of both Buffy and Willow's self-hatred over the Season 3
conversation: Buffy for lying about her feelings, Will for burdening
Buffy and giving her a reason to push Willow away. The situation in
Rome was well-sketched, as was Willow's conquering of her fear. And the
situation was believably toxic enough that I was angry at Willow for not
communicating about the Xander situation (what the hell is she doing,
playing lone wolf? Not only did she turn out to need Buffy's help, but
it might have been beneficial for Xander et al to know she was looking
for a cure. What if Buffy had decided to stay with him? What if
they'd decided to pull the plug and spare him some pain?) and agreeing
with her that she might as well go away again (and gee, Buffy, if Willow
just spent five years running away, you might do a little better job of
letting her know how much you miss and need her *before* she's three
steps away from skedaddling again. What if Willow had gotten the idea
to go while you were asleep or in the bathroom?).
And yet...the moment that the truth comes out, there's such honest love
that all of this falls away, and Willow's angry slap feels more like a
hug, a connection as all the pieces fall into place. Really, quite
evocative.
Thanks,
Dan
