Re: Re: Something I've noticed

In reply to Jay (but generally general):

I would hate to think that gender revelations would kill your FB.
Feedback does tend to flow in cycles, but maybe some readers have a
problem with it.

Which I would say is silly, since B/W is one fandom that has its roots
on both sides of the chromosome pool. These lists were founded by a
man, and many of our greatest writers (from Pat Kelly down to Mr.
Hamlet) have been men.

As M-H pointed out, if "write what you know" were taken literally, the
entire fields of fantasy and sci-fi would not exist. It means "write
what resonates emotionally with you, and it should resonate with
others". So Joss Whedon took his emotional pain about feeling lonely as
a teen and told stories about being One Girl In All The World, and thus
a fandom was born.

As far as realism in the experience, all I know is that some of the
(non-Buffy) stories I read that suffered most from "sopping panty
syndrome" were written by women. How realistic or not these were, I
don't know. I just remember thinking "damn, she must have some laundry
bills..."
