Hey all,
Has anyone on
this list looked into this 2004 Writercon that is being put together for next August
in Las Vegas?
The reason I ask
is that they are looking for someone to sit on a panel on ‘Writing
Effective Erotica’, specifically representing the Femslash aspect of
erotica. I wondered if anyone here knew someone who was going, (or could
be encouraged to go) who could really represent this area of fanfic writing.
I included the
info on the con below, from the website.
I’m
planning on going, is anyone else from BWW?

You're all invited...
I'm proud to announce the birth of a new type of
convention for
fanfic writers created by the writers FOR the
writers. It has been
an idea that has been talked about for over a
year, but thanks to
such a group of truly inspiring and energetic
people, it will
finally be coming to fruition.
It doesn't matter if you are a neophyte to the
world of fanfiction
or a well-seasoned veteran, this con promises to
offer something for
everyone. Finally, a con geared specifically for
the amateur writer
and fosters an environment to let this genre
flourish! Check out the
website! Submit ideas. Get involved. Road trip to
Las Vegas July 30 -

Go to any fan convention and you'll see us.
You'll find us outside in front of the hotel or
gathered at the
pool, deep in conversation. You'll see us in the bar,
gesturing
maniacally as we make a point. We sometimes skip
the Q&A's and
organized activities. And the others look at us
strangely as they
hurry along to the next item on the agenda.
There are code words and phrases that we use so
that we can
recognize each other. Things like 'plot
bunnies', 'Jossed', 'WIP', 'flashfic', 'muse', and
most important of
all, 'beta'.
We build elaborate lists and message boards. We
haunt AIM and YM.
All in search of the private one-on-one time we
crave with other
people who understand how one bad piece of canon
continuity can
shoot your work-in-progress in the foot. We have
no dance. Our dance
belongs to our characters.
We are the writers.
Up until now, we've piggybacked onto general fan
gatherings and
conventions, secreting ourselves away in quiet
corners and in the
hotel bar, whispering curse words as we recount
our dialogue woes,
bitch about unfavorable feedback, and the belabor
the loss of our
muses to the only people who truly understand our
pain.
Other writers.
And now we're 'out'!
For the first time, we're pulling away to do our
own thing. To talk
fic writing. Exclusively. No more stopping in the
middle of a
dynamic conversation to go to a Q&A. No more
stilted autograph lines
where precious fic discussion time is wasted
standing beside folks
who don't understand. We're going to be up close
and personal, faces
to go with the names for an entire weekend. A
weekend uncluttered by
actor-celebrities.
In 2004, beginning Friday, July 30th and ending (with
most of us
kicking and screaming) on Sunday, August 1, we're
claiming right of
place. For us and our writing needs. In Las Vegas,
Nevada.
