SUBTERFUGE (33/?)
"What time is it?" a sleepy voice asked.
"A little past six," Willow said as she glanced at the clock.
"Good. We can stay in bed longer," Buffy said as she snuggled closer to her lover. A smile crossed her face as she used that word to describe Willow. Of course, she hadn't really stopped smiling since she and her best friend had kissed the previous evening. Being with Willow, thinking about Willow, talking to Willow, pretty much everything about the redhead caused the slayer to smile. True, the smiles differed a bit. There was the goofy, look at me I'm in love with the most wonderful woman in the world kind of smile, and then there was the shy, my best friend is now my girlfriend kind of smile, and then there was the happy, I can't believe I'm lucky enough to be loved by such a beautiful and intelligent woman kind of smile, and then was the sexy, I can't wait to taste you and touch you smile, and finally there was the contented, I love holding you in my arms and love you so much kind of smile. Right now, Buffy's smile was a mixture of the shy smile mixed with the contented s
mile.
"I love waking up in your arms," Willow said softly, feeling her lover's arms tighten their embrace at her words.
"I love waking up with you in my arms," Buffy admitted with the shy smile as she looked at Willow. She gently brushed her fingers along the redhead's cheek, her eyes catching Willow's as she said, "You're so beautiful and sexy and smart and funny. I love you, Willow."
Willow smiled at her lover's words, having to admit that she'd been a bit nervous about how Buffy would react to the change in their relationship. She had no doubts that the slayer loved her, but she'd been worried that things might have happened too fast. She had loved Buffy for as long as she could remember, even if she hadn't admitted the truth to herself until recently, but she hadn't wanted the blonde to wake up this morning with any regrets. They'd made love all night, only stopping to get a snack shortly after midnight and then to finally sleep some time around two. She didn't have any regrets, knowing that being with Buffy, loving Buffy, made her happier than she'd ever been. Being loved in return, well, it was beyond anything she'd ever imagined. She brushed her fingers through her lover's blonde hair and whispered, "I love you, too, Buffy. Any regrets?"
"No regrets at all," Buffy said before she kissed Willow, her words sincere. She could have regretted that it took her so long to realize that her feelings for the redhead went way beyond just those of a best friend, but she had to admit that it had all probably turned out for the best. She didn't know if she could have handled loving Willow in a lover type of way when they'd been in high school, not even sure if Willow could have handled loving her. They had both grown up a lot in the past couple of years, had relationships and dealt with the curveballs that life had thrown them. Through it all, their friendship had remained, growing stronger with every passing day, as had the love they felt for each other. She might have ignored the feelings, tried to pretend that they were just friendly emotions, but they'd been there all along and they'd just gotten stronger and more powerful over time. She knew they were real, knew that the love she felt for Willow was true and the fore
ver after kind they wrote about in fairy tales. She was ready to love Willow, to be loved by Willow.
"Me either," Willow said softly when Buffy pulled back from the kiss.
Buffy heard a noise in the hallway, glancing towards it before looking back at Willow. She sighed dramatically, "It sounds like the brat is already awake."
"Doesn't she realize it's Saturday? You'd think she'd want to be lazy and sleep all morning," Willow groaned, not wanting to get out of bed or leave Buffy's arms yet.
"What can I say? Dawn is a weird kid," Buffy said, her eyes widening as she asked, "Do you think she's freaked out about last night? I mean, she saw me without my shirt and I'm supposed to be the parent now that Mom is gone and…."
