Re: Timeline question
I think that "Once More, With Spuffy" has to follow fairly closely on
the heels of the previous ep, because of the W/T/D plot. It could even
take place the very next day, since in the "overture" section Tara finds
the Lethe's Bramble in the bed. So the chronology would go something
like this:
Wednesday, Oct 31: Halloween. Dawn in danger, W/T fight, Steven
DeKnight assassinates Willow's character.
Thursday, Nov 1: Tara finds the evidence. Sweet arrives. Buffy sings
"Going Through the Motions", W/T sing about couscous, Giles strums his
guitar, David Fury gets mustard on his shirt.
Friday, Nov 2: The Scoobs discover something's happening. Dawn sings
about math in school. Tara discovers that she's heterosexual and dumps
Willow, who is now free to be with her soulmate. (Shh, I'm
dreaming....). David Fury appreciates his dry cleaning.
Saturday, Nov 3: Giles discovers that people are dying. Various songs
are sung. Marti Noxon isn't wearing underwear. (Ew!) ***DAWN TELLS
TARA THAT SHE'S GLAD W/T MADE UP AFTER THEIR FIGHT ON WEDNESDAY, THUS
INDICATING THAT IT'S FAIRLY SOON AFTER***. Dawn gets kidnapped, Dawn
gets rescued, Joss assassinates Xander's character for a cheap laugh,
ickiness ensues in the alley.
Or, alternatively, since Buffy has that "Dawn's in danger, it must be
Tuesday" line on the third day, it could just be that Tara doesn't find
the bramble until Sunday, Nov. 4th (sloppy housekeeping, though) and the
episode ends on Tuesday, the 6th. This would still allow for Dawn's
math class on the second day to take place on Monday, a school day.
However, all the activity seen in the "overture" would seem a little
strange for a Sunday morning, but maybe Riley got them all in the habit
of going to church. (Except that Tara's Wiccan, Willow's Jewish, and
Buffy was raised by agnostic parents and thinks religion is "freaky".
Okay, so maybe not.)
Hope this helps.
Dan
Further thoughts:
There's nothing in the overture to indicate that any singing is going
on, so maybe **that** takes place on Thursday morning, with Tara finding
the bramble and thinking nothing of it, and then when the scene cuts to
Buffy in the graveyard, we've jumped ahead to Sunday night, and the
singing has begun. This allows Dawn to be at school on Monday and to be
kidnapped on Tuesday, and I suppose it's not that odd that Dawn would
wait a week before telling Tara that she's happy W/T made up.
