But
then there’s determinisim, where free will is an illusion and we have no
choice in what we do. If you could
really choose to do something, why then did you do one thing and not the other? For instance, imagine you’re at a fork
in the road. You could go left or
right. You ‘choose’ to go
left. Why didn’t you go right? Because it was not meant to
be. Remember the last new Angel “Whoever
drinks from the cup is the one who was supposed to drink from the cup” or
something like that. Same
basic idea. We base everything we
do on past experience, or in the lack thereof, experience in something somehow
similar in abstract way. Back to the fork in the road. Your girlfriend just so happens to be a
southpaw, and also, the night before you watched Randy Johnson pitch for the
Diamondbacks. Ok, this is a poor
example, but you get my drift. When you’re
making that ‘choice’, the sum of your experiences dictates that
there is only one possible outcome. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
