Looking at what has just befallen the spinoff, if it was Sarah's
decision to end BtVS, she made the right one. Better to go out on
your own terms than to have the network ax you.

Seven years is a long time on any project, and long enough for a TV
series. There's a reason they stopped all the Star Trek series
after seven seasons. I would have hated for BtVS to go the way of
other great shows like MASH in sticking around years after it was
time to wrap it. ASH had already reduced himself to a part time
schedule, and I'm sure Sarah and Aly wanted to do different things
and have more free time for a while. Sometimes you just need a
break.

Of course, it's entirely possible that Sarah will tire of Freddie,
and win her one true love from that Wesley guy... Oh, wait... :)

I'm inclined to agree with you on the matter of Sarah's decision to leave
the show. Not only had the show run its course, IMO, but from what I
understand both Sarah and James Marsters were rather opposed to the whole
Buffy/Spike subplot. At least from what I read in various interviews that's
the impression I got.

What worries me regarding SMH is her decisions outside of Buffy. I don't
care how many millions 'Scooby Doo' made, that film and its sequel will drag
her credibility down something serious in the future. She went from playing
Buffy to playing Daphne, which is essentially Buffy Lite. I mean, they both
fight monsters and end up involved with soulless blondes, right? Plus, her
next movie, I understand, is going to be a remake of a Japanese horror
classic, in the manner of The Ring. My concern is that SMG is in danger of
typecasting. She's all grown up now; she needs to get out of the horror and
teen genres and quickly!  But I don't see her getting the chance to do that;
her most recent non-genre effort, Harvard Man, went directly to video.
Never a good sign.

Aly is proving her chops in comedy, however(she was the one bright spot in
American Wedding, IMO), and is currently gearing up for a sitcom pilot for
NBC. I'd like to see SMG make a similar move in her career. Leave the
vampires and monsters behind for a while, get into some gritty crime drama
or decent romance. Hell, have the Cohen Brothers write a dark comedy for
her. They did wonders for George Clooney!

Just some idle thoughts,

Willow: "It's a good fight, Buffy, and I want in."
Buffy: "I kinda love you."
