Re: Kind of an OT post and sort of a ramble

Ok, first apologies for the OT, but I've been thinking about this
for a while now and I'd really like to here other opinions.

Anything Buffy related isn't really off topic, IMO. I'm always looking for good fic, even if it isn't neccessarily B/W. Hell, I wrote a Harmony ficlet just before I started the In Rome series.
Second, I've been following... well, let's just say quite a few
BTVS virtual seasons. Some of them are pretty good some of them suck, and a couple make me wonder if Joss did'nt have Season eight all mapped out and decide to post it on the Web.

Hmm... Which would be those couple? Haven't been too impressed with the ones I've seen, so far, but I'd love to see a good one. Of course, I'd be bringing my own prejudices to it, like my attitude towards Willow having a Rebound Girl/Substitute For The Real Thing :)

Now most of these have one thing in common, they like to make
Buffy miserable. Except of course for the one that dosen't have her in it AT ALL! Not saying any names, so don't ask. There's a few more that don't make Buffy unhappy all the time, just part of the time. Mostly because of what she percieves as failures, both from her time in Sunnydale and after.

Which isn't where the characters were going after Chosen. The whole point was they, especially Buffy, truly came of age. She's dealt with the personal demons and grew into the leadership role Giles always said she would. She's now at a point where she can be in charge of not just her little group, but the much larger, worldwide, duties of a new, reformed, 21st Century Watchers Council. She delegates a lot, of course, to her old core gang, because they've grown into mature responsible people, themselves. There's plenty to explore, since they changed the world in Chosen. They can build a world instead of just reacting to the immediate threats, now.
Now here's the thing that's been bugging me, only ONE of these
virtual series (At least of the ones that I've seen, not that I've seen all of them I'm sure.) has any sort of 'shipper bias. This is where the OT part comes in, It's B/G! (Shudder! Sorry if I've offended any one.)

I wouldn't mind that, really, if it's one of the good ones. I've read some good B/G stories, the idea behind them being a view that the central relationship of the series is between the Slayer and Watcher. ASH has a strong female fan base, after all, so that's to be expected. Sure, there's the age difference, but her two main romances have been with guys a LOT older than Ripper :) I suppose it all comes down to what one considers the show's core central relationship, what it's all actually about, what drives the series. For some, it's the Slayer/Watcher thing. Others see it as about the Slayer and her devoted witchy hacker best friend. Still others think it's about the Slayer and the OTHER best friend, the guy who, without benefit of powers or special training, has always come through for her. Then, of course, there are the Bangles, and the Spuffies. And every one of them can make the arguement that their's is the core story that drives the Buffyverse. I like that. I like that these characters and stories are so multilayered that there can be so many different points of view about it.
The thing is, the eps themselves are really good and Buffy is well
written and, with a few exceptions, in character and fairly happy. Anyway this got me to thinking 'How come there are no <and if there are some one send the addys please, cause I'd really like to see one> virtual seasons with a B/W slant! Cause god knows our Slayer could be a lot happier with her Red Witch than with any body else.

I suppose because we haven't taken a shot at it :)

One problem with doing these things while Angel is still on is that show can throw a virtual Season 8 off. Have you put Buffy in Cleveland? Oops, she's living in Rome. Have the Scoobies settled anywhere? Oops, they're all over the place, looking for Slayers. Of course, that doesn't mean their home base isn't in the same city, maybe even a really big house that everyone lives in when they're not off on a mission somewhere. Or, you could just say Andrew's giving misinformation about everyone's whereabouts and activities, to throw Wolfram & Hart off the scent. They could all be in Anaheim or something, waiting for the opportunity to take the Evil Law Firm down. "Buffy, you just saved the world and closed the Hellmouth. What are you going to do, now?" "I'm going to Disneyland!" Damn, wish I'd thought of that before I put everyone in Rome... Give them a really huge house by the beach, fun in the sun... :)
Once again, sorry for the OT, Thanks for listening to my
craziness, B.
BTW, liking the 'In Rome' series E, And as far as not knowing it
WAS a series when you started, I can relate. B.

Thanks. And yeah, these things sometimes take a life of their own :)
