I could have gone without those particular plot points "resolved".
The Hellmouth (closing the Hellmouth means destroying Sunnydale
which is no real victory) the First (we find out that the Source of
All Evil is a incompetent blowhard who poses no real menace to
anyone, Angelus in S2 was a better incarnation of Pure Evil) and the
Slayer origin, which in my mind is better left untold.
OK, so you wanted the story begun in WttH to go unfinished, with
everything set up and built over the years to go unresolved. What
was of most importance to you was killing Buffy, period. Fine.
But, I'm glad you didn't get what you wanted.
As for the First not being a real threat, I think the Watchers
Council, who knows how many Potentials, Jonathon, and Anya would
argue that. Or, they would if they weren't dead, and all. And, the
implication was that the First had a direct hand in EVERYTHING that
happened to Buffy since Prophesy Girl, which is quite the body
count. And, when you have both the Powers That Be AND Wolfram &
Hart literally moving Heaven and Earth to inconvenience you, you're
probably considered a bit of a problem.
As for Sunnydale, the place was literally built for the sole purpose
of giving the demons hanging around the Hellmouth tasty humans to
feed on. It's entire existance was built around the Hellmouth.
Close the Hellmouth, and Sunnydale has no reason to exist. And what
does it matter that Sunnydale is gone, since we were never going to
see it again once the series ended, anyway?
Sorry, but I can't see Willow, Tara, Dawn, etc, not being raped and
dismembered by a gang of biker demons as a BAD thing.

I'm with Dan here. I saw it as Buffy forsaking her responsibility
to thousands upon thousands of innocents. And nothing in the series
justifies her doing that.
She didn't create the Slayers, all those millenia ago. She didn't
create this species of human/demon hybrids. She was the created,
here. All she did was take the stolen authority from the Traverses
of the world, and give the choices to those who's power it actually,
rightfully, is. Where was she forsaking her responsibilities,
here? To whom? If you mean Humanity, surely Humanity would have to
be considered in a better position to be defended against the forces
of darkness than they were, before? If even only a few hundred of
these girls ("Hundreds, possibly thousands" being Wesley's
estimation of how many there are out there)choose to take up the
fight, that's a few hundred more places the Slayer will be able to
protect.
And, if you think Buffy is being unfair to the poor vamps and demons
by making the odds a little more even instead of the overwhelming
advantage given to the bad guys, before, don't you have to bash
Willow, too? Who performed the spell?
But, I'm not hostile to Buffy and Willow, or wish horrible death
upon them. I'm especially fond of those two. They're my favorite
characters in the whole mythos, along with the cleavagey slutbomb.

Well, we disagree. I'm coming from a Roman Catholic background,
so that filters my views on the Big Issues.
Hey, got the Catholic background, too. Nevertheless, forgiveness
and redemption are two different things.
