My own pet theory is that Slayers get off on the energy release when 
a vamp goes poof.  They're preditors, so it would make sense that 
they get something from their kills.  They feed off energy.  A kill 
of any sort provides it, but vampires, exploding like they do, are a 
feast.  This would also fit with how Buffy felt stronger after her 
revival in Prophesy Girl (the Hellmouth energy feeding her), and the 
never answered question of why the hospital wing Faith was in was 
pretty deserted by the time she woke up.  If, while unable to 
physically act, she was drawing energy from everyone around her, 
patients would have had trouble recovering if they were in close 
vacintity.
