I joined the list after you left but welcome back.

I can answer one of your questions, why didn't they make Buffy gay?  
With Buffy and Willow's close relationship you'd think that at some 
time Buffy and Willow would have at least discussed it.

I believe the answer lies in an interview with Michelle Greene.  
Michelle Greene played Abby Perkins on LA Law and had the first 
lesbian kiss on network television with Amanda Donohoe.
She said that when it was discussed if Amanda would be made a 
regular cast member that a network representative said that there 
was an unwritten rule that two regular cast members could not be 
allowed in a same sex relationship, thus the reason that Amber was 
never granted that status.
