this is desdemona's cousin and I have been reading about this today...just asking...why Aly hates Season Six? Just asking.

Er, no. Out of the WB's seven dramas last season, "Angel"'s ratings
ranked…seventh. ("Charmed" battled "Smallville" for fourth/fifth;
"One Tree Hill" was sixth.)
And as disappointed as ABC may have been with the ratings for "Alias",
they were still way better than anything on the WB, with the possible
exception of "7th Heaven". (I don't have the relevant stats, but a "Big
Three" net almost always outdraws a weblet by a huge margin, at least
for scripted drama [although reality programming and "The Simpsons" did
vault FOX into 3rd over ABC this past year, but there's a gap between
FOX's ratings and those of the WB/UPN, too.])
My quick thoughts on movies? (Bearing in mind that I haven't read the
source article.)
JM? Sure. He's the one who keeps bringing it up, and Joss made him the
star o
f both
shows, so I'm sure that's the idea he's really pushing. If
only one gets made, it'll be this one.
DB? Nah. Tired of it, would probably only do the big screen (which is
an important leap for his career, unlike Sarah, who's been there and
done that, and thus might not draw such a line between tv/film).
SMG? Not a snowball's chance. Her relationship with Joss got toxic,
culminating in her publicly campaigning for a lighter Buffy and no
Spuffy in S7 and Joss responding by giving her neither, and additionally
turning Buffy into a complete bitch and then telling the media he did
the storyline to reflect Sarah's interaction with the rest of the cast.
Would be more likely to work again with Susan Lucci. (Well, okay, maybe
not, but definitely a no.)
OTOH, remember that Joss doesn't own the show—FOX and Sandollar do.
(Originally they were expecting Mr. Big Shot Action-Film Script Doctor
to laugh
at the
idea of working on a "Buffy" series, and only asked him
about being involved as a courtesy before hiring someone else.) So it's
not impossible that SMG could play Buffy again, but not with Joss
anywhere near the project. My current fantasy is a David
Greenwalt-helmed film/series. (The only problem maybe that while Joss
doesn't own the title, Buffy Summers, or the "Slayer" and "Watcher"
concepts, his deal for the series might give him at least partial
ownership of any new characters created on it, and thus the rest of the
cast would be subject to his veto. But this is major spec territory,
anyway.)
Aly? Yeah, she and Joss seem to still be okay (although she disliked S6
and didn't seem to be trying her best in S7) and it would fit within her
career arc. But is the world ready for an action/fantasy film with a
lesbian lead character?
Eliza? Doable, I think. Allegedly, one of the
reasons
she "spiked" the
Faith series was because Joss insisted that JM be part of any spinoff
(be it Faith-on-a-bike, Willow at Slayer School, or Dawn the Vampire
Slayer) and she was worried that, like Sarah, she'd be reduced to second
lead on what was nominally her show. But a single-character film would
avoid that problem and also not trap her in the long-term commitment
she's been reluctant to give Joss for years now, even going back to when
she chose college over doing S4.
ASH? Always a company guy, but Giles has been so marginalized that I
can't see anyone buying it. Hell, they won't even make "Ripper" in
England, despite the BBC using ASH in "Manchild", so I don't see this
selling.
MT is willing to return to TV (see "Six Feet Under") and I think she and
Joss get along well enough, but the Dawn spinoff tanked for lack of
interest, so would anyone fund a movie?
I think they could easily have sold a Cord
elia
flick, especially given
CC's Playboy cover, but some idiot got mad at her for having a baby,
fired her, and then killed the character off just so she wouldn't be
eligible for things like this. Then again, the "death" could be
fanwanked away, and maybe it was really Jeff Bell who was pissed at
Charisma, since he was the one who had to rewrite the arc to accommodate
the pregnancy and it was he, not Joss, who made the assy "people have
lives, people have babies, characters have arcs, and she had a great
one" dismissal of Cordelia/Charisma at last year's San Diego Con. (But,
then again [again], CC told the Boston Herald that it was Joss who told
her she wouldn't be coming back for this past season of "Angel" and
didn't tell her why, so…)
Xander is a non-issue for about six reasons I probably don't even have
to mention. Illyria might be an interesting character to sell as a
"new" concept, but I assume whoever's fund
ing these
flicks is looking
for that "BtVS"/"Angel" cachet to pull fans, and I don't think Illyria
(or Fred, or AA) has enough traction to get the green light.
So, in sum: no for Buffy and Angel, yes for Spike, probable yes for
Faith, questionable for Willow and Dawn, and highly doubtful for the
rest. JMO, naturally.
Dan
whose idea of "quick" turns out to be as unique as Snyder's idea of
"volunteer"
Willow: "It's a good fight, Buffy, and I want in."
Buffy: "I kinda love you."
