The Ethics of Mirrors

Hi all,

I have a question about ethics.  Should we recreate "A Slayer, A Hacker" without the original creator's permission?  Without the original authors permissions?  It's a serious question.  Can the web-mistress complain if her site reappears on a new host, outside of her control?  Or do we assume that by letting it lapse, she's relinquished control?

What about all of the authors fics?  Do we re-host them, applying the logic that the permission extends to the new "A Slayer, A Hacker"?  Or do we make new requests to host?  What about the authors we can't reach?

Do we simply restore it or do we update?  There are a few incomplete fics there that are completed elsewhere, or at least less incomplete.  Do we change the layout of any of the fics?  On my local copy, I've altered the html for consistent spacing, a font size I like, corrected a few of the most glaring mis-spellings and grammar flaws that disturbed my reading.  Does anyone have the true originals?

What about the missing "Episode Shippiness" and "Quotes" pages.  On the update page they are promised in a future update that apparently never occurred.  Do we create new pages to fit the empty links or delete the links?

I say we because I too ripped the site for my own off-line pleasure.  And I did some trial and error hunting on the site to find a few things that were mis-addressed.  Ask me for missing things when it's time to relaunch the site.
