FIC: Nights in a bar (2/?)
TITLE: Nights in a bar (2/?)
AUTHOR: SGC58
DISCLAIMER: All characters belong to Joss Whedon and Mutant Enemy. I
don't own anything.
SUMMARY: An AU fic. Buffy never moved to Sunnydale and there was no
Hellmouth, so the world still turns. A mysterious blonde enters the
life of Willow as she works in a bar to make extra money while she's
at collage.
SPOILERS: Don't think there's anything except general background
stuff.
FEEDBACK: Yes please, with a stake and a crossbow on top.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: This is my first Buffy fic so any advice on how well
I've done the characters would be greatly received also this is my
first fight scene, hope it's not too bad. . This is completely AU
but takes place half way through Willows second year at collage, so
say mid S-5 for ages and such. I'd like to thank everyone who read
the first part and Nowheretoroam, steven, dan and susan for their
feedback.
Willow halfheartedly wiped the bar as her shift slowly dragged into
its second hour. She enjoyed working here, but it could be so boring
sometimes. She knew some of her mood stemmed from not seeing the
blonde who had been in the week before. Willow still berated herself
for not asking what her name was, but she couldn't work out why it
still annoyed her. The woman was beautiful, but Willow was happy
with Jennifer.
"Then why do you feel so bitterly disappointed when your shift ends
and you haven't seen her?" asked a traitorous voice in her head.
"I don't have a crush on her. She was funny and I liked spending
time with her."
"Crush, who said anything about a crush. You're the one who
mentioned a crush, something you want to tell the class?"
"Great now my sarcasm is ganging up on me. Maybe I should have taken
psychology," muttered Willow to herself.
"Psychology is easy all you have to say is `Your crazy' and then
charge them two hundred bucks."
Willow's head snapped up and came eye to eye with a smirking blonde
face. Willow couldn't control the smile that blossomed across her
face.
"Hay how's it going? Your looking good," said the blonde.
"I'm good, thanks. You want the same?" asked Willow. The blonde
just nodded as she took the same barstool. Willow got the bottle and
tried to phrase her words, so they wouldn't sound too harsh or
desperate. "You could have said goodbye when you left." Could I
have sounded any more pathetic? Willow asked herself.
"I'm sorry, I lost track of time and had to rush for an appointment,"
said the blonde. "My stake and his heart" mumbled the blonde, luckily
Willow didn't hear her.
"Its okay I was being stupid, but I realized when you left that I
didn't even ask what your name was."
"Don't worry about it. It's been bugging me all week that I forgot
to ask you the same thing."
Willow felt warmth in her stomach because the blonde had been
thinking about her. "I'm Willow."
"I'm Buffy, and before you ask yes, my parents liked me, no my mom
wasn't smoking anything and finally no it's not short for Elizabeth.
I like your name it's pretty like you."
"You think I'm pretty?" asked Willow stunned that this gorgeous woman
though that she was anything but ugly."
"Sure, you must have be beating them back with a stick on campus."
`No that would be my girlfriend,' the words formed them selves in her
mind, but refused to be spoken. Willow didn't pursue the reason for
that lapse too closely. "Not really, most be people don't notice me
because I'm so shy."
"Well that's something we need to change," declared Buffy with
another of her hundred watt smiles.
"You should do that more often, smiling suits you." Buffy's head
dropped while the most important thing in the world was a study of
the bar. Willow's heart soared as she realized that she had
embarrassed her new friend. Willow's shift seamed to fly by after
Buffy had arrived and she was almost regretting the fact she had to
go home.
"Oh! Look at the time I need to be going. I'm sorry to have abandon
you to the boredom once more," said Buffy with one of her trademark
smirks that were far more common than a smile from the mysterious
blonde.
"It's okay, my shift's over in a few minutes anyway."
"I'll walk you back home if you want, it's on my way."
"How do you know that, when you don't know were I live?"
"You told me you live in the dorms."
"I knew that. I was just testing you. Meet you out back in about
five minutes?"
"Sounds great." Its only a few minutes later that she was in the
alley at the back of the bar and everything seemed calm, but the
slayer's senses were screaming.
"Well look what we have here. I prefer brunettes, but suppose a
blonde will do." The voice came from a dark corner that rippled to
reveal two men. Their faces morphed to show their true form, two low
growls echoed within the alley. Buffy slowly levered herself off of
the she had been leaning against and quickly checked to see if the
alley was empty. "You can run, but you'll just die tired," said the
lead vamp.
The talkative vampire rushed forward expecting, Buffy to run and the
shock was clearly etched into his face as she leaped forward easily
jamming a stake into his heart. The second vampire hadn't moved, but
simply studied the young woman.
The slayer watched the vampire, knowing this fight wouldn't be as
easy as the first one. He came quickly with a professional right
cross and a jab that throw her into a wall. An elbow and a kick
bought her a second of space before a punch smashed into her ribs.
Buffy flicked out her leg catching his knee with a distinctive crack
of bone. A thundering right hook from the slayer connected with the
vamp's face braking his jaw. A lifetime of instinct made him clutch
his face his guard was down for a half-second. A half-second was
more than Buffy needed as the stake disintegrated as the vamp turned
to dust.
A huge crash made Buffy spin `round, as the bar's door opened.
"Hi Buffy& what happened?" asked willow as she stepped into the alley
and noticed a cut on the blonde's head.
"Nothing I just tipped over my own feet and hit the wall. I'm fine."
Buffy quickly covered the cut with her hair, knowing the small cut
would be healed by morning.
"Are you sure?"
"It's just a scratch." Buffy couldn't help smiling at the concern her
new friend was showing. "Come we had better get going or you'll
sleep in and miss tomorrows classes." She couldn't stop herself from
giggling at the look of horror that filled willow's face.
