like the title says...when did it all begin?

when did the first person suddenly say to him or herself (and not in a hormonal teenager, two-chicks-getting-it-on kinda way) 'I think those two would make a really great couple'?

when did the first Buffy/Willow shipper spontaneously burst into existance?

P.S. on a slightly related note...what is it that makes people think Willow/Spike is a good pairing? Honstly, i can easily picture Willow with just about anyone (of course, Buffy being the easiest) , but Spike?  It just doesn't work!
