Yes, but because the show was on before most people had internet access (and even those that had it, it was very different from what we have today) the majority of it was distributed via fanzines or, in the case of longer fics, the author would have their work printed and sell it for enough to cover printing costs and maybe a little extra for their efforts.

 

BatB fan fic is generally divided into "classic", which revolves around the first two seasons and ignores Catherine's (Linda Hamilton) death and the third season, and non-classic (it doesn't have a specific name that I recall) which incorporates Catherine's death and includes the third season with Diana (Jo Anderson), originally intended to be Vincent's new love interest but the series was cancelled. Fandom was very deeply divided but there were a few fics that dared to try and bridge the gap by keeping Catherine alive while also including Diana. For my part, I preferred classic but was open-minded enough for well-written third season fics, as well, even those in which Vincent and Diana became lovers.

"Beauty and the Beast" ?generally applied to the Ron Perlman/Linda
Hamilton '80s TV show of the name, rather than the later Disney movie

Whedonverse connection:  Roy Doctrice, who played Vincent (the
"Beast"'s) father on that series, later played Wesley's father, Roger
Wyndam-Pryce, in Angel ep 5.07, "Lineage".
